Where is a good place online to buy 85 Tri Z parts. I've tried my 2 local Yamaha dealers and they are worthless. I need a carb kit. which if I buy piece by piece I'm quoted 120 bucks  A fuel pump rebuild kit, I can get a complet new one for 200 bucks. and a set of reeds. My tire guy says he can't get me a Kenda front max tire, what do you guys run on the front. Man I need to get hooked up, I have'nt been turned down so many times today since high school.

HI!

front tire you can use a dunlop oem replacement.my dealer has 6 in stock.$35.00 mounted
carlise makes one.$30.00 unmounted
for a dune tire thier is only one still made: skat trak:smoothie 23-8.5-12 $54.00

fuel pump rebuild kit very easy to get local parts supplier order kit#mk-df52
genuine mikuni parts kit,it is under snowmobile in parts unlimited.$12.95

as for a carb rebuild kit i have not found one.

just order a bowl gasket.

go to local auto parts store a buy a carb dip $9.99

do not put plastic or rubber parts in it.
rubber expands ,plastic turns to goo.

Thanks for the part number on the fuel pump, I got a new keihin off a crate motor tonight and a motion pro throttle kit for a 85 R. I also found the reeds, they are the same as a Lt 80. Now I just need the front tire. best I could come up with is a itp mud lite. lol you might have to give me your dealers number so I can order one. All I need now is a Bills Pipe! lol

There's several front tires out there for the Z. Just have to dig around a bit. I know there's a Holeshot available, I'm getting a Carlisle Badlands for mine, there's Carlisle Trail Wolf, Dunlop junkers, etc. The biggest problem is that most of the tires are real aggressive tread because the size is for a 4x4 quad. I like the Badlands and the Holeshots because they have a more directional pattern. If I were sitting my bike up for trails though, I would definately run the Trail Wolfs front and rear. Those tires are awesome.

Not always. If someone wants something bad enough, they will outbid you.

My stocker front was about worn out when I came came across some Dunlop KT121 tires that are currently being used for some utility, and I really like it. Even though its also a 25", its a little bit shorter than the stock front, and a little lighter than the stock one. Kenda front max is a great 3 wheeler front tire, but they dont make one that fits a TriZ.

Carb kits are a total waste of money, and a joke. If you have $120 worth of bad components, I wouldnt even use it. There is very little to wear out out go bad in a carb, which is why they dont normally make rebuild kits other than aftermarket companies who target people that dont know any better. You may need a new gasket now and then, or you may accidentally bend your needle, but youre not going to wear anything out, though I will say, my slide is beginning to wear, and get a little sticky after many many years of constant use. Your jets dont wear out. Rebuild kits are for carbs with rubber plungers and diaphrams.

Online OEM I use bikebandit.com a lot, and also worldofpowersports.com.

As for reeds, if you need news ones, you can get Boyson Power Reeds for it, at probably less than OEM cost.

Online OEM I use bikebandit.com a lot, and also worldofpowersports.com. Partsfish also has them, but they dont have TriZ schematics on line.

I'll tell you what I saw the other day, I saw a Tri-Z on one of the boards that had a Honda 11" rim on the front. If you went that way, a front max would be no problem. Looked kind of strange with the smaller rim, though. I need to find out the bolt pattern of the front rim, because that's some good useless information to have!

Yeah I saw that last night. I already ordered a tire. The only thing I need now is the airfilter basket. We ride a lot of dusty areas and I hear the untifilter is better for that.

HEY!!!!!!

I wouldn't go that way.
i use a k+n with a outerwear.

outerwear part#q1725-5t

up here in coal country the uni blocks up quickly.

the outerwear cleans up nicely with soap and water.

some dawn and the coal dirt comes right off.

in the front vent i used a small piece of foam.

that what works up here the best!!!!!!!!

The R front rim on the Z has been done by Jeb and I saw another on .ORG.

Yes. WickedFinger said he also did this on his "FrankenFlyer Z". I like the lower 23" tire better than the 25" stocker. The R rim would not bolt to the Z hub. I used the whole hub, disc, rim and tire from my 85 250R. Then I had to space the caliper over slightly but I used the Z axle and spacers. And the Z stuff went onto the R but the 25-12 tire looks terrible on the R.

Tires Unlimited lists the OEM front tire for the 86 Tri-Z. Dunlop KT732 I believe. It's a 23" tire for a 12" rim which I would prefer but I had the R stuff just setting around.

I also have a Bill's pipe and CT silencer on my Tri-Z. The pipe is bare metal and I need to hit it with WD40 and scotch brite to get rid of the always re-occurring surface rust but I'd let it go for 3 bills.

Well, maybe not. :TrikesOwn

Incidently, my pipe looks different than that one. might just be the poor photograph. I can verify 100% mine is a Bills because it has a little name plate welded to it that says Bills. :D I wonder if that ebay pipe has the same tag??

BLAZERONE22
01-05-2005, 07:59 PM
Yeah I would have like to had a Bills pipe, but 3 bills is a little much right now.lol I'm sure a good deal will come along. One day. :wondering I have an extra 350x wheel and 250r hub kicking around I might try the 23 inch tire. To bad I already ordered up a new dunlop.

BLAZERONE22

Well My tire came back discontinued, I went with 20's in the rear so I may do the 85R front tire swap and just get a frontmax.

I dropped in my carb off a crate motor R into the Z and installed my motion pro twist throttle last night and the Z fired up and idled on the 2nd kick. The fuel pump magically started working also, so it looks like I'm on the way. Motor sounds good, no noises or leaks. I'm going to take off the silencer tonight and clean it up.

On the cooling system, what all should I check for? whats the weak link in there? all the hoses look okay. I'm going to drain it down and do a flush tonight.

Only one problem with the cooling system, and its a biggie. The impellers come apart. Check for flow often, especially anytime it blows steam out the overflow. The thermostats also fail frequently, but when they do, they get stuck wide open, so its not a problem, and most guys probably are running without thermostats.

Derrick Adams
01-13-2005, 11:30 AM
Are the impellers still available?

TimSr
01-13-2005, 11:33 AM
Yes, its available and the same impeller is also used in a couple of the old YZs. The dealers stock the impeller seal because its also used in all years Banshee.
