I would love to know the aproximate numbers of three wheelers made by the manufactuers in the day. Specifically the racing models There seem to be whole lot more 250rs (by a land slide) out there than the tecates and tri z's.
Does anyone have this kind of info for the history books??

In the late 90's the CPSC made an estimate that there were approx a 100,000 threewheeler still being used. I'm guessing maybe twice or better of that were made total.

Yeah they're great machines. For every 5 250r's I see for sale I may see 2 tri Z's and rarely a tecate especially 86.
Dammit!

I saw a figure of 20,000 water pumper R's somewhere. No idea if it's accurate or not. Would be interesting to see real numbers for all models.

I would have to say the most popular has to be 83-84 200x or Big red. Then maybe ytm 125's,then 185 and 200s.They seem to be everywhere.Probly because you didn't need alot of land to use them.A 250r need's some land to keep the plug clean,no tight wooded area's.

Testing my memory here but, I think the Big Red was their biggest seller until the very end when the 200x finally took over that position.
Don't remember which magazine stated that but it was around 1987-1988 when I read it in a Q&A/Letters column. Somebody wrote in asking the same question (most popular trike). That's assuming this editor had correct information.

Oh by the nine hells not another one.....
Ahem, this thread is from 2004, there is no need to resurrect a thread thats been dead and buried for 7 years. Start a new one, and move along. Nothing to see here.

On the old CBS deal where they made trikes out to be just complete death machines, there was a number of about 2.5 million in the u.s. in the 10 years or so they had produced at that time.

What's funny about this old thread is now the information has been researched and is on the trike sites now. Some #'s haven't been discovered. There isn't an actual 84'-85' Tecate # or Tri-Z number available from the factory. Honda seemed to keep track though. Moreover, how many are actually usable and functional today? Many of these early member probably still have em', but how many? And I know so many trike people that it's just their 'thing'. They don't go on sites or congregate around other 3-wheeler owners. Some members on here no longer have a 3-wheeler. A couple of #'s I'd like to discover is about how many a week are saved and resurrected, and how many a week are used for parts to keep others alive. I wonder what the ratio is? Say, 2:1?, two trikes are eliminated to 1 being reborn? Curious......
