hi im having a problem with my 86 250r. it wont kick start when its cold, you have to pop it and it starts up fine and runs excellent. If u spray starter fluid in the cylinder and then kick it it fires and then just boggs down. once its warm it kick starts everytime. I thought it was the lectron carb not tuned properly, but the guy at a local shop told me I need a new top end because when its cold it doesnt let it combust on the compression stroke cause the rings dont seal up agaisnt the cylinder enough! then he said when it gets warm they expand and seal it so it can combust. it seems to me like it has enough compression I can hardly kick it. Maybe just cause ive never owned one so i dont kno how much its soposed to have.
any help will be good!

Get a compression tester and tell us what you get.
175 psi at sea level is minimum for a good topend.

check to see if u have a air leak between the cylinder and head, my ole 83 did that to me and i found out it was the gasket sealer heated up became a liquid again and allowed air to escape threw the "crack"
