I came acrossed this pic today. http://community.webshots.com/photo/36227196/36229698mJUnqO. Now I have never seen a 185 in action but I would have to say this kid has alot of faith in his. I thought I would post this pic because I havent even had any of my machines in mud or water that high. It surprised me. Ok i took a closer look at this Atc and I think its a 200 big red.

I had the engine of my 200x completely submerged once. I had done a few water proofing tricks to it that I got out of a Dirtwheels magazine though. The air intake at the front of the frame was still above water.

Ive had my motor partially submerged before, unless the starter motor goes under with the rest you are ok.

i took mine under the pullstarter..not good when u have no cap over the timing cover tho..thats how my stator burnt up the first time...and that case breather hose was under water instead of being in the airbox like it should be..had some nasty oil so its kinda a good thing that the stator went out..if i had kept ridin it that woulda been bad

I've had mine WAY deeper than that plenty of times. I even had the headlight on my 82 ATC200 underwater, you could see the beam of light shining under water. It was in a rock bottom creek so there was no chance of getting stuck.

I just couldnt do it. No Way. I grew up down there and saw plenty of it. Maybe when I was young, and dad was footing the bill for repairs. LOL

I had my 185s in mud/water above recoil starter handle pretty close to carb.
Thats why I am debating rather to drill holes in the air box cover or not.

I guess you could do that on your buddies bike if you ran out of sand

dont drill holes in the airbox cover..never do that..take it off if u want more power but put it on when trailprotrailpro goin through mud..seriously its like the worst thing u could do

There are more things to worry about than the air box. Water in the bearings, in the case, get the stator wet, all kinda problems that I wouldnt like to have to deal with. If you have a differential, water in it. You would be suprised. The local Honda dealer says they get at least on bike in a week, that has been submerged in some way shape or form. They all have major internal engine problems. Corrodes the wires and everything.

When I was young and foolish I had mine that deep plenty of times. I vividly remember looking back and seeing my exhaust bubbling up and hoping the water didn't get any deeper. My dad used to yell at me that Yamaha didn't make submarines.
