Ok..

Last night, fired up the o'l furnace in the garage.. cracked open a beer and got to it.

Removed my front wheel to install new shoes ( 30 $.. ouch. :D ) and you all know how this goes.. one thing leads to another.

I checked my bearings and on the right side, solid, on the left side a bit of play but it spins ok.. i removed the black mud cover and the bearing seal and it was FULL of grit, so i wiped as much as i could outa there and re-packed it with waterproof grease, put it all back together and got to thinking.

how much play is too much ?

Do you guys wait until they crunch and lock up before you replace them or should they be replaced at the slightest give ?

Depends. If you can feel slack, I change them. However, they can go along time. The problem is if the seize up from getting real hot.

Wait to long and it wears the brakes on a angle.

Front bearings are one of those things you think about when your going 65 down a canal road for 15 minutes.
