if i remove the stock airbox do i have to rejet the carb?

Yes, you will more then likey have to go up several main jet sizes and raise your needle.

does it mess up the jetting if you take the airbox off

Yes, anything you do to a machine to increase air flow, you are goining to need to rejet.
