I know a little sumthin' about 'em (I put one on my 85 SX). You could have the cold start valve installed and not physically be able to see the difference (unless the old one and the new one were side by side. Its a thousands of an inch increase in the passage that feeds gas to the engine in choke mode. However, if you have a bunch of vent hoses on your carb then you probably have the valve also (the hoses and valve came as a retrofit kit for early 85's). From what I know the later 85's had it installed at the factory. When you choke it does it start well in cold weather? Mine was a PITA before the kit, but starts great now.
