Spark Plug Question

I have an 85 250sx and currently it has a Champion Plug in it, but it keeps carbon fouling. I can clean the plug and it works great for about 1 week. I want to go to an NGK DR8ES-L (OEM). Should changing to an NGK help with this problem? I also check the carb and it is as lean as it will go. I was told that NGK burns better. I know that the -L is a 1/2 step hotter, however would the next hotter plug be a DR7ES? Any help is appreciated!
