I just put a brand new timing chain on my 185s. It's running excellent, but, I want to make sure I have the tension on the timing chain adjusted correctly. YES, I HAVE READ THE REPAIR MANUAL, but one thing is not totaly clear to me. Do I loosen and tighten the little bolt on the top of the adjuster or the big bolt that the little bolt is in?

Could someone that's actually done this explain it in better (easier to understand) terms to me?

Thanks,

Matt

This came up a while back, after a bunch of replies i beleive it goes like this :

The big bolt adjusts the tension, the small bolt on top is used for assembly of the engine .

Start the engine, let it warm up. loosen the big nut to let it adjust itself and snug it back up, not tight ( book says 14 ft lbs i think ) don't bother with the small nut.

If i got that wrong, can someone please explain this once and for all !

Thanks for the quick response. I'll check back in a little while to see if there are any corrections.
