Great site. I have a 1985 Yamaha 225 DX. It just started acting up. It acts as if it has just lost power. My first thought was carbeuration. I pulled the carb off, soaked it in lacqur thinner overnight and then reassembled it. The motor sounds like it is running out of gas but gas is making it to the plug (it's wet). When it does stop running, there is a hissing sound from the exhaust like an AC makes in a car when the engine is turned off. I cannot figure out what is wrong. Probably not enough info but yor help is appreciated.

Sounds to me like its overheating. Does it idle ok or do you now need to run it with the choke on?. If so, check your intake and head gasket for an air leak - might be causing your motor to run lean and too hot. Need a little more info for a better guess though.
