probly because you have a shaved head that creates a lot more compression.

To elaborate a little more, the more compression you have, the higher octane you need. with a lower octane, the compression will cause preignition which isn't good for your piston. You probably have a high comp piston as well? you coul probably put a lwer comp. piston in it and be fine, but your gonna lose some performance. hope this helps.

I dont understand people, there is no such thing as a hi compression 2 stroke piston, you need it for the compression, I just rebuilt my r and I used a atc gasket and cut stock head, it will run fine on pump gas, but I'm gonna put on cool head w/18cc and cr gasket, then I will need race gas which I used for my 330 kit, 190 lbs and over you need race gas. the 3 base gaskets sounds a bit strange to me, sounds like a attempt to lessen the compression.
