What is the deal with people taking 350X motors out of perfectly good 350X atc's and placing the motor in a quad frames. I always seem to see this and its just not fair to the 350X to get so ripped off like this. Its like paoching.
Another one on ebay:

Well... the 350X motor rocks! People have even said it is better than the HONDA 400EX motor too. If I recall, there wasn't much modification to do to drop on in a 250X chassis either.
On the bright side, I know of a near mint 350X that someone took the motor out of (to put into a Blaster no less :wondering ) that was bought on ebay and is being "brought" to life with a crate motor/mods. This 350X even had the rear fender extenders and a mint tank!
Thankfully, the person doesn't like metal tanks, nor stock seats! hehehehehe SO I have those here. I still haven't been able to talk him out of the rear fenders with the fender extenders!

The 350X motor swap is slowing down with all the new quads out. It's almost a drop in fit into a 250x or 300ex chassis. The biggest thing you need is an exhaust but companies like Powroll sold the kit for years and I think they still might. This was another good answer to the hard up sport quad market after 88-89. Being that the 350X motor is less hp then a 400ex motor and the 400ex motor mods much better I doubt this will be a big thing anymore. This is like the trike convertions, you'll see them out there but it's not near as popular as it used to be.

Its NOT popular any more. It was popular before the 400EX was introduced, and even though its more easily fit to a 250X/300ex frame, most of them were put on TRX250R chassis. Simply put, they wanted an open class 4 stroke racer, and their only other choice was a Warrior.
Also, this was especially popular during the post-ban period when these 350x crate motors were popping up all over the place.

I like the Honda 300EX motor swap into the 350X, just as much power and REVERSE.

Well, he doesn't look like the most intelligent person (or perhaps honest either);
""I have ran leaded CAM2 (110 octane) in this for several years because it benifits the motor, but it will run fine on regular 87 pump gas... Engine Mods: Wiseco 12:1 Hi performance."
I'd love to sit him down and make him explain why he thinks 110 octane benefits his motor... EVEN THOUGH it supposedly runs just fine on 87. The hilarity.
Hahahaha....

back in 97 when i bought my first new quad i ran into a guy who for the hell of it worked up 300EX.IT ONLY RAN ON CAM2 and it was fast.the front never stayed down. i bet if he still had it it would smoke 350x 400ex and maybe more. the last i heard about him he was in jail got into drugs and got busted. before that he had the best banshee around here too.. he was an awesome rider too. too bad drugs got the best of him. his friend still has one of my front rims and tires for a banshee damn it i forgot about that lol

Yeah, the stock 282ex motor is a little weak but if you 12:1 330 it with a cam and the usaul mods your running pretty darn good. It would probably take a piped 350x nicely. I think if I did it I'd start with the 250x motor, swap in the 300ex crank and then do the 80mm big bore to get 330cc's. The 250x motor would be a simpler set up without the electric start. I think kick would be cooler in the 350x frame too.

I remember old issues of Dirtwheels where they modded a 300ex fairly well and they drag raced it against a trx 250r, it hung with the R until the last of the race. A cammed, piped EX with a larger carb would kill a stock or even a piped X. Now think of a motor like that in a 350X frame...the bonus would be the reverse gear.
Is this guy serious?
Thats funny, I say the same thing to myself about most of your posts. Nah, j/k man, I like you.
Yes I am serious, it has been done and was a very easy swap, wouldn't you like a reverse gear on your 350X?

Thats just it, the 350X is not a high performance bike, it was never raced in MX or SX by the pros nor was it advertised as a high performance bike. Its is a trail/playbike plain and simple. Compare the 350X to the Yamaha Raptor. Both are fourstroke bigbore playbikes, the Raptor has reverse because its a nice feature and the added weight won't make that much of a difference in performance because it will never see true competition. You would compare the 250R to the TRX450R, those are high performance. Adding reverse on one of these is not something the manufacturer is going to do because they know their product will see competition and the added weight would hinder performance.
Are you going to race your 350X on a MX track? When your riding in the trails and need to turn around in a tight spot would you rather get off and drag the tail around or push yourself back with your feet while sitting on the bike or would you rather flick a lever and backup under your own bikes power?
The way I look at it the 300EX motor even though it has the reverse gear is still in the same weight range as the 350X motor, the 300ex motor prollay weighing less makes close to the same power as the 350X but not more. After you put some mods like a cam, pipe...etc your going to make more power than your X and weigh less, you will also have reverse, thats my point, its such a damn good mod to your 350X...lots of power and reverse!!!

Yeah, thats exactly what I say when Im racing MX and theres a pileup on the track, and the other guys back up and go around it while I hop off which pulls the tether kill switch off, and pull my bike backwards, hop back on, restart it and try to catch up. Im also thinking that when Im running a harescramble, and somebody gets stuck blocking the line, and the other guys back up and turn around while I have to hop off, lift the rear end when Im already exhausted, drag the front end around until Im facing the other way, hop back on and get restarted. When all those guys are passing me, all I can think is "how lame" they are. They should be as cool as me.
