First off, I'd like to give a big thanks to Tim Sr. for helping me get this bike home. Right now I'm in the middle of tearing down my '85 250r for a complete restoration. I got it home only to find it's packing a westcoast swingarm! The only deal is that I have NO idea what I'm doing when it comes to ordering parts for it. It needs new wheel bearings badly in the rear. Could anyone please tell me if this whole rear carrier/axle setup uses '86 parts (see pic)? It's already got a flatside carb on it, so it wouldn't surprise me.
take the old berings and races out and take them to the local bearing shop and have them measure and order the correct size for you....

yeah, its prob a stock honda carrier, does it have a stock axle on it ?? then the outer race and inner races would be the same as a stocker.. you could prob put any carrier you want into it.. if you want to replace it w a new fully loaded unit, after you powder that swinger!!!

Haha, you know just what I'm thinking on this project, POWDER COAT! I'm not too concerned on if it is an '85 or '86, either is fine. I just want to know what year for parts ordering. I can get a whole carrier from lonestar for it, but they have different listings for '85 and '86 because the axles are different that year as well.

Thats an 86 carrier.
I would recommend replacing with new parts: carrier, axle with axle lock nut, chain and sprockets.

The axle in there is a high dollar unit. I'd kinda like to figure out the year style of the shaft and keep it, rather than shelling out the $300-$400 for another aftermarket one.

shoot a wider view pic..or when you pull the axle out, shoot some pics.. i thk its a stocker 86 carrier, just throw some new bearings and seals in it..chrome the axle or re zinc it.. and youll be golden.. i powdered an old school axle from 86 this week, in a "chrome" powder, turned out ok, but nothing looks like the zinc or chrome!!

Hey Bigredrunner, it looked like a stock carrier (86) to me. Id just throw in new bearings and seals. I see no point in replacing a 20 year old carrier because it "might break". If its good, Id just replace the bearings. The more I think about it, though, I think you may have an oversized axle on that. My 86 TRX250R used to fit in my van a LOT easier, and your trike was wider than my TriZ with 2" worth of extension. Judging by the way it fit compared to my TRX, I think you may have a +4 axle on it, but its looks like a stock one.
