can anyone tell me how to check the crankbearings on an aircooled 250r?

Take the flywheel cover off, and the clutch cover off, and you will be looking at both ends of the crank shaft. Then you can grab the flywheel, and witha little more difficulty, the other shaft end, and see if you can move them or get them to wiggle in any direction other than normal bearing rotation.
I have no idea if the aircooled use a counterbalancer, but they are the more common cause of low end noise/roar if it has one.

Does a liquid cooled R have a counterbalacer? My buddy has a 250R with some weird lower end whirling noise.

I've rebuilt both air and liquid R engines/trannys,, Both of them have a counter balancer.
