I have an 85 350x and I wanna put some more top end into it. I have stock gearing 13/40. I need to replace sprockets anyway. Where do you guys find gearing options. I found 14 tooth front sprockets but I wanna combine it with a 38 tooth rear if possible. Anyone know where I can source a 38 or 39 tooth rear sprocket. I ride the dunes and run 20" paddles so having some more topend would really be nice. Can I use sprockets from other models?

I would really focus on finding a smaller rear sprocket like around a 35 and leave the front one alone. You can't fit the case saver on there with a 14 front and especially running your trike with paddles in the sand, I wouldn't want to be with out a case saver. My friend is looking to buy a 350X and the last 2 he looked at had patched cases from the chain hitting the case from a derail or snap.

Somebody has got to make a 35 rear, give or take a tooth.

hey, checked out 250x/r, not the same, but a good machinist could make an adapter. there is a 36 for 250x/r, same as 300/400ex. or get someone to make a new case saver.40/13 is3.08,36/13 is 2.77, 40/14 is 2.86. make an adapter, and you have a lot of options!!

Sprocket specialists has all kinds of sprockets. I looked and they have as small as 34 teeth for 350x's. I was thinking of getting a 14tooth since it would be easier than finding an expensive special rear sprocket. I just don't wanna loose my case saver. The current cover I have I patched with epoxy and it is working well so far. but that's still kinda sketchy if you ask me. If I run a 14tooth front and get a high quality o ring chain I shouldn't have to worry too much about the case saver? I found a 38 tooth for only $36 Is that worth it? It's aluminum.

I feel your pain, i got a 86 in the spring, and a 85 in the fall, as far as i can tell, the only diff in sprockets is the bolts that hold them on. The 86 is tapered with alen head, the 85 is standard bolt, u can use a 86 smaller sprocket if u can find it, just change the bolts to 86, but i searched far and wide and got a 37t sprocket specialists in aluminum. I ran it all summer, and it's still fine, it's showing a little wear, but it will live all next summer for sure. i use 20 inch stock 250r tires in sand, i like the turning better, but dont go too small, or you'll run out of motor to pull it. i bought a 14 tooth front first, then seen there really isnt mutch room for a custom case saver, so rather than chance it, i paid a buck a tooth and decided i'd rather replace sprockets every year than try to find cases for it.

I had a 250r spit a brand new chain off within a week of installing it. Broke my case half(no case saver) and was a pain to repair. The axle bearings went out and the axle kicked sideways enough to kick the chain off. You just never know what can happen. All I know is I'd rather pay for a rear sprocket then a case half.

You can run a 14 and a chainguide(case saver) if you take a dremel/die grinder and shave the inside of the guide to where it will allow the chain to pass by. I did this to mine years ago, without incident.
