I have a 84 200es B.R. it smoked when i gave it gas, when i took off in first gear there was a cloud of smoke.I took the motor out ,took off the valve cover and the exhaust valve side was all black,my question is ,does that meen the exhaust valve bad or the rings .I want to know what i should replace,or should i take the rest of it apart.when the motor was on the trike it ran good and it was fast,it idles good,it was faster than my other one,it just smoked a bit ,could a bad exhaust valve make it smoke or check the piston too.any help would be great,thanks...........svo58

Don't know al your symptoms but I had a similar problem once and I had a bad valve guide seal that was causing the smoke(white smoke)

there should be crank oil in the valve cover, you refering to black oily stuff under the cover, or more like burnt carbon ?

It looks like burnt oil,its under the cam and exhaust valve side .The intake side is clean.
