Hey everyone.

Latlely i'm hoping to sell/trade my YTM225DX and ATC90 so I can get a 200X and I'm looking at a 85 as we speak. I'm just wondering what are the differences between the 2 years other than the tire size and transmission set.
Whats the difference in the plastics/gastank and are they interchangable? Any help would be appriciated.

My plan for the X is to do the XR200 trans/carb/piston/etc swap and change a few other things. Namely exhaust and 9inch wheels instead of 8 inchers.

Also I've read bits a peices about doing an 350X rear suspension swap, whats does this entail and is it worth it?

Just if anyones interested, when I do the XR trans swap I plan on keeping my digital camera handy and do a detailed how too to put on my website along with my 500R (http://tiger.towson.edu/~lmielk1) project. If anyones interested in a how to like that just let me know and I'll make sure I do it for sure. (well obviously I need to move my 225 and 90 first and then get the 200X)

the 85 and 86 200x are totally different.the 83-85 modles use rouned type frame like on the 200s and the 86-87 use a square type. the 86 is a 6 speed and 83-85 is a 5 speed,different plastic,headlight,suspension,etc(nothing that I know of interchanges)the 86-87 is a overall better trike....but the 83-85 200x's still kick ***!!! are you going to mod a 83-85 200x?

86-87 have 2 hole tanks with bigger shrouds. 6 speed trannys. Bigger valves and cam. Better suspension.

Well from what you guys are telling my the trike I'm looking at isn't the one I want. I thought the only real difference was the 6speed tranny. I guess I'll just keep looking then. lol. Thanks for all the great info. I guess I'll just keep waiting for untill I find a 86 200x or a 350X.

Well honestly I don't know. The comments about the supension kinda turn me off. I mean, do you have a 83-85 200x? Do you like the ride? I currently have/am selling a 85 Yamaha YTM225dx and it really can't take the agressive way I ride or should I say want to ride. Is the 200x much of an upgrade from the YTM225DX. I mean I kinda figured it would have more power than the 225 because its more of a racer style supension and stufff. Forward kick, etc.. lotsa stuff I'm looking for. This 85 200x is super clean, almost restored but from the pictures it does look like the suspension saging. I dunno. Do you think a nearly restored 85 200x is worth $1200 and do you think I'll be happy with it stock or after I change it over to the XRtrans and topend?

the 85 200x is a great bike i like them beter than the 86 and 87's. the ride is good, and i dont think it is worth the 1200 i got mine with brand new tires in back new fenders and a brand new pipe for 600, and it ran great!

Louis, if your plans are a xr200 trans swap and 350X suspension swap then you would want to start with a nice 85. Lots of parts available and I believe the 350X forks and rear shock bolt on to the pre 86 bikes the easiest but id have to search about it to be sure. Don't think that the pre 86 200X's aren't nice bikes, its just that the 86/87 was an improvement on an already great design.

Well if you think I'll be happy with the 85 do you think that my 85 YTM225dx and ATC90 for a super clean ATC200x is a fair trade.

The ATC90 is all but rebuilt (i won't say restored because its just really clean, but not 100%) brand new maire plastic, compete topend rebuild, brand new tires etc etc....I have $400 in it.

and my YTM225dx, I'd rate it 8.5 out 10. nice plastic, 80% tires, runs good etc.

So is both my trikes for a 200X a fair trade? Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Around here the Honda trikes are hard to come by for decent prices. Everyone wnat supwards of $1500. i personally think hte trikes worth about $800 but I fear I'll never find one just waiting for the right price. This one seems really clean and the guys interested in a trade. I dunno what to do.

Take it for a test drive and see if you like it. Thats the only way your gonna find out if its for you or not. We can give you our opinions, but we can't shape what you prefer. Personally, i wouldn't trade two nice trikes for a 200X, and i wouldn't pay $1200 for one either. But, prices vary with regions. is $1200 the going price for 200x's where you live? hope this helps.
