Well I see that Honda 250R pretty much is the most popular, but I figured us Tecate owners can give a good showing. Lets see all the Tecates, Maybe a little history of the machine, and your plans for fixing em up or whatever. Its time to strut our stuff. :beer
Heres mine, Im sure you have seen it trailprotrailpro. I need to put the Hi Flite Flame seat cover on it and the headlight, but shes finally about done. I got this when I injured my back 8 years ago for a project at $300.00. It was quite the piece of crap, and I think I went overboard with the restoration. I redid everything on the Trike. Everything is new or restored, except the exhaust. It sure cost alot more than I expected, and the wife isnt to happy about it. I feel good that I saved it from the Boneyard though. Its up for sale if anyone is interested.
Maybe someone will start a Tri-Z and 250R thread? :D

Here is a pic of my 86 T-3. I would like to find an original seat that has Kawasaki on it , I would also love to find a tank cover for it and last but not least I need to replace these darn super swampers tires  that came on it when I got it.
I know there are a lot more Tecate owners on here than this. Come on guys show your stuff.

here is our tecates. we bought both of these 84's with titles and both run for 700 bucks. Some guy was sellin them to "pimp out his lowrider" HAHA. He said neither had run for a long time, so we took down some fresh gas and oil. The first one kicked right over, and the second woudln't budge. Then we ended up pull starting the second one with the first one we got started. THe look on the guys face was priceless!
the first 3 pics are the night we brought them home....and the last pic is the tecate in the 3rd picture once we cleaned it up and got new plastics.

Love the way you can stand up trikes to make room for more rides, pretty cool being able to stuff two of those in a Dakota.
Very nice 86. That 85 looks to have an extended axle, also like the chromed exhaust guard.

Ya the 85 has widened axle, and an extended swing arm. The 86 has a pipe (don't know who ade it) other then that they are stock.

This is the cleanest 84 model I have ever seen. It was on ebay a while back....yes you can drool!
It was the proverbial story...
Husband buys Tecate in the Fall of 83. Take a ride down the street. It scares him to death. Puts it in the garage and tries to take it back to dealer. Dealer won't take it without cutting alot off the price. Husband decides to sell it himself. 20 years pass and husband dies. Widow sells it to a kid down the street and now he tries to sell it on ebay....
....it may be B.S. ....but it sounds good!
Darius1502

Enjoy the Tecate more....who knows what became of it...
Probably ragged out by some 16 year old in the swamps of West Louisiana by now.....

Man I love those tecates, I've only seen one for sale ever in my area though, and it went for $700!!!!!!!!!!!! It was in good shape, if only I had the money at the time!
i like the look of tec3's my friend who is an avid trike driver and mechinc drove one that was bone stock and ran perfect and said it was rather gutless...he prefed the tri-z but iv herd tec3's are known for there top end and are a lil weak on the bottem...i dunno thou...

32mm carb vs 34mm & K.I.P.S. as far as stock goes, The tecate is not gutless in 86. :p
Mine is a rider!! Not only that I will let just about anyone get on it (as long as they know how to use a cluch). I know that prob 10 different people have ridden it just in HASPIN alone. W/O riding them its hard to show them off!!

10-28-2004, 02:38 PM
well I can see someone who wanted to just ride woods or wanted low end grunt might say that, but if he thought it was gutless either he didn't crank on the gas long enough and was short shifting it lol or the bike was broken and wasn't running right.

10-28-2004, 02:40 PM
Or the power valves were messed up.........ask me why I know that! LOL
first time i ever heard someone say they take a liesurely ride on a tecate.lol
I've done my fair share of tearing it up on 'em over the years. I just don't like to thrash my KXT anymore. I've always liked to trail ride my 86 KXT. I always thought it was a good ATV for trails for me. The 84/85 has more of an absence of low-end than the 86/87 power valved engine. :D

Looks great ANGE!!! That # plate covers the radiator, thats what makes it so cool!!
I have only ridden 1 slow Tecate, no names mentioned. I think he is a member here, I did FINALLY send out the parts to fix it free of charge. I just couldn't bare to have a slow T3 out there LOL. I love the 86/87s, but there is nothing like the ride you get from a fat tired 84/85. A pink framed green 85 was my first T3, a reward is still being offered if anyone finds it. 11 T3s later I would take a mint 85 over just about any trike.
LONG LIVE THE T3!!

LOL MEATBOX. I have ridden a few T3s from the board. I can tell you it was not a 84/85 that was the slow T3. I did get you some parts to get you running too LOL. I have ridden 5 board members T3s. Lets see if the owner steps up LOL. He will have it 100% for TF05 I am sure of it.

Here is my 86 tecate. This is actually old pic with the first paint job on the frame. I have since powdered the frame silver metallic with gloss clear as well as powdered the rear spring blue for more accent color. Also put a near new seat on it since - old one had a rip.
This one is almost finished, needs about $300 in parts/work to finish like the sprockets/chain, rear shock rebuilt and chain rollers and thats it --> done. Just hasnt been priority so far to finish.
Check out the complete Bills pipe exhaust!! Not many of those around......

Have to agree with 350Xccelerator, tecatecrazy's 84' tecate is SICK!!! That's the best looking 84 or 85 tecate that I've seen. Amazing how those bikes can look with chomed wheels, that painted copper look on the stock wheels don't cut it. Hey, tecatecrazy or any of you other guys, does DG still make pipes available for 84'-86' Tecate's?
ATC4ever!
03-15-2008, 08:37 PM
Ok one more question for all ya'll Tecate guys. Are there any big bore kits still available for Tecate's like for the Honda 250R's? Example you can still get ESR kits for the Honda's and for the air fooler it seems every other month you can find a HRC 300 kit on ebay. If so who made them? Anybody got some pic's?

No plans of screwing around with this one. Just trying to decide whether to keep it a 250 or use a kx500 I found. Also seems like allot of part whording with the Tecate people, that kinda bums me out. Didn't seem that way when I had the 250r. I realize there are allot more Honda parts out there, but seems like it would be nice to have more people enjoying the same machine, rather than 20 guys stockpiling parts to keep theirs going for 200 years. Most of ours kids won't be saving the "toys" we leave them after our "departure" anyhow. Oh well. Love the site, look forward to sharing info with ya guys. FOREVER 3 WHEELING!!!

It appears that someone put a 38 on it before I bought it back in '98. Other than the carb, its got Boyesen reeds, a DG pipe/silencer, and the head cut for some more compression. I've got a Cal-Fab arm that will be put on soon.

http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/Gag_Halfront/My%20Trikes/Tecate%20KXT250/T3_left.jpg
Notice the bent frame....
http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/Gag_Halfront/My%20Trikes/Tecate%20KXT250/T3_rear.jpg
After a winter tear-down I put it all back together on a new, freshly painted frame. While I was at it, it got the 300ex rear shock treatment. All in all, I think I have about $100 into this trike and that's mostly in gas to go get parts.
I still have some finishing touches to ad, like putting the sprocket cover back on, installing my new kicker gears and clutch, etc. I'd also like to get her a better pipe and silencer and maybe a carb and thumb throttle.

Well there sure are alot of NICE T3's out there. Here is the one i traded a 84 200s with 85 200x engine on it and 300 bucks for. She needs some work but when i can afford it, it will be done. It has 86 front end along with tank and shrouds (has 84 tank now). The carrier was welded to the swinger. Yah i know what your thinking "wtf" some people, lol. Has a different rear and swinger now too. Going to be tore down soon and all purrtied up.

Anyone interested in selling a 86-87 Tecate 3 please let me know. Finding one is turning out to be a real pain in the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro. I need those two to finish my collection. I know I am going to have to pay more for them and thats fine. I had no clue just how hard it was going to be. Thanks for any help, Brian

Here is a pic of mine. I have since sold the cal fab swingarm and finishline axle. I plan on a desert seat with blue cover in the stock length. I don't like the look of the up the tank seat on this year. The current axle and swingarm are stock.

I have always liked your Tecate. How did you do your footpegs to make them wider with the kickup on the end? Very sharp.

09-21-2010, 10:17 PM
Thanks, They were on there when I got it. They appear to be a quad peg which was cut to widen it then drilled and bolted on to the stock pegs. The extenders on the end are welded on. It makes it a lot better in rough terrain. I'm almost done getting it back together, and it runs great now with the pvl.

Here are some crappy updated pics of my useless Tecate as of last winter. If your buying a Ricky Stator setup for your Tecate take it apart and loc tight all the screws holding the coils. I learned the hard way by getting it running and having the screws back out and imploded my whole stator and flywheel. Sending her in to get it running I just hope the massive explosion of my stator and flywheel didnt short my CDI or anything because I cant get any spark out of this new one they sent to replace the other. The 2nd one had no loc tight on it either.
Anyways I have this setup and my Ice racer setup.

Figured i'd play too......
The small tire bike is the 1st bike i did years ago, and it's evolved into a fantastic machine with some nice goodies.
The Yellow background bike is one i put together out of extras. It runs very well with limited performance parts.
The 3rd is a fantasy shot!!!!!!! But real!
But seriously, i'm in the works of putting together my last 85 Tecate. It will be the final machine in my set of 3. It will be BY FAR the best looking and performing machine i own. This one is going to be very special indeed!:naughty:

Well, here is my wife's 85 Tecate. It's currently not running. One of it's previous owners threaded oversized standard bolts into the stator mounting holes and they are cracked. So, I am replacing the left side case half. The Tecate has a plus 10" chromoly swingarm, ported jug with fresh nicasil, mystery pipe, 39 PJ carb, V-force intake, Eibach rear spring, and a Sprock coolhead. I'll be getting it running this winter:Bounce

Thanks my trike brothas! Yeah, it's actually my trike now. After riding Mike's (co250rman on .org) wife's 86 200X at Whitewash this spring, my wife want's "one of those little bitches, because it's so cute." Fortunately, I have a very nasty 86 200X, rivaled only by DC's still in storage up in Colorado, and it's next incarnation will be very potent.
I am very much looking forward to this build because it will be kicking off with my new powdercoating business, that and I am still ignorant to the ways of all that is Tecate.

That bike looks familiar for some reason? Didn't you post up some pics earlier in the year when you got it. Looks like it has some potential to be a solid dune machine. Just make sure you get the chassis tight, before you start building BIG power. Trust me. when you get it right, you wont believe how fun these green things are. They have addictive personalities.......

No, I don't think so. I've been sittin' on this one for over a year. The chassis is tip top, the engine however needs some much needed attention from me. Oh yes, it will be fast!

Personally, I feel the exact opposite. I hate thumb throttles and think a twist throttle works better in whoops. I'd rather have my whole right hand around the bar instead of 4 fingers. Besides that it keeps people off of my trikes.
Xpress
09-24-2010, 02:22 PM
I've grown accustom to thumb throttle, so I'm sued to having 4 fingers lock around the bars. Also, won't you have the tendency to twist the twisters on the whoops???

Depends on how good your suspension is, I suppose. I love whoops. Pin it and go.

I've got pretty much all the parts to build the nice bike that will have the white maiers on it so they're going to go on a shelf while I get that done this winter. The beater will keep those painted OEMs and I'll just re paint them whenever they get too beat up. :-P

OEM's are quite a bit thicker, and don't look half as ugly. Not to mention there is a storage pocket under the seat on the oem rear plastic

^ I second that dcreel, I like the fenders to come up over the seat instead of drop down. Not being choosy, but what looks better to my eye. Also am thinkin' a red set will be a thing of the past if I can't get the pink sanded to a sorta red color. Might have to change them to the next group ordering color, I dunno.

This one got built for 3ww and could be yours for as little as 5 dollars (1 in 1000 chance).
We all will find out who's it is June 25, 2011.
It is still undergoing some cosmetic transformations (seat cover is out of here for something Mosh's are working on + a whole bunch of Thrumans bling after market parts going on it to enhance all the nickle chrome on this trike).
Best of luck to all that support the site with the purchase of a ticket !

Runs great, drag pipe, 44 mikuni carb. Paddles on rims, and dirt tires on there own rims. 10" extended swing arm. ported and polished. Stroker crank and more..... Yep..she's fast... but she will be faster!!!
