does anyone recognize this tecate pipe. At first I thought it was a Bassani, but looking again at where the stinger is bent made me think it was something different. I dont think that it is stock.

Looks like Wheelsmith expansion chamber made in So.Cal in the 80's.

Only your old schoolers will remember Wheelsmith pipes. Wheelsmith pipes were all made by hand. Wheelsmith used to make a ton of pipes for MXers and really hit it off with the Elsinore guys, the KTM bikes also used these pipes amongst others. A hint that’s it's appears to be a Wheelsmith is the many "Segments" in the pipe's shape or form. The one you got from Ebay I'm almost sure is a Wheelsmith, but it looks like it had been painted. Take a look at my Franks kx500 powered monster; it uses a custom Wheelsmith expansion chamber, (built for the franks frame, Tecate frame slightly different). That pipe is a nice Rare find, Kudos!

Whoa, I'm impressed by the knowledgable people on here. I have an 84/85 tecate that is just about sorted out and is an awesome ride. It has a stock pipe for now but I want to know what pipes are out there.

I REALLY need an a/m pipe for my Tecate. It seems that every time one pops up, I miss it. Good find.

So tecate4life this pipe on my 86 is a wheelsmith? The only markings on it say "Jemco" but it can't be seen in the pic. Thats all I know about it, it was on the bike when i got it, and I had it chromed to make it look good.

Edit - forgot to add the pic

WOW, that is one fat expansion chamber. Either that or its a Bassani. Nice lookin pipe though, the fat pipes make more torque right? And the long stretched ones are made to increase topend?

It is not a Bassani. The Bassani's (With a very, very few exceptions) were all manufactured in the "stamped" style and not the hand made cone style like pictured. As far as what pipe it is the possibilities are many. I personally have a Klemm pipe and it looks similar to the other hand made cone pipes pictures. Just like the others mine is totally unmarked but I bought it direct from Klemm.

thats cool, Curtis how did you like those Trail Claw tires on your Tecate? Did they last long and were they 2 ply or 4 ply? thanks.

I have had those tires for a long time and actually like them very much. The Trail Claw II tires are 20x11x10. I had holeshots on there before but on a stock swingarm Tecate they actually hooked up too much for my taste. I am 99% sure that they are only 2 ply.

Jemco pipes are Jemco pipes. I'd say pretty rare pipe too for an 86 KXT.

Got this info off the net. Don't know if it's good or not anymore. Came off a motorcycle web site.

Didn't Jemco make pipes for Tiger ATV?

I got a Bill's pipe on my Tri-Z. The upper portion is made of conical sections. But the lower part appears stamped. The conical sections give it the custom hand-made exhaust look.
