When you remove the left side cover (the stator cover) on a 250sx is there supposed to be oil under the cover? My cover gasket was torn and all the crankcase oil would drain out. Talked to a guy today that said there was not supposed to be oil under that cover. Lets hear you guys' input.
Thanks.
i dont think there is supposed to be oil in there...sounds like your seal behind the stator in the case is toast...least on mosty of the hondas thats what it is...not sure with an SX

i looked up the left side cover removal in my manual and the first thing they said to do was drain the oil.
the last thing to do in assembly is to add oil.
judging by the pictures ,,, i'd say there is supposed to be oil in there cuz the shifting parts are right there.
there is one bolt on the case that is critical ,,, as far as needing to have a washer on it for case sealing ( manual says oil WILL leak if not on there ). it's washer #15 0n bolt #25 in the bike bandit diagram.
( might hafta scroll around a little )
i'd say it's gonna have oil in there ,,,

Yes, the 250sx / 250es motors use a flywheel that is sumerged in oil. It sounds normal.

Thanks guys!! I wanted to be sure that I did not have a major problem w/ the bottom end before rebuilding the top end.
