On all the reed cages I have seen, there is a little metal piece that keeps the reeds from opening all the way. It also keeps the engine from revving all the way.I have bought Boyesen reeds before, and they say to remove it. Can I remove the piece with the stock reeds still on? Would I have to re-jet? Thanks. :)

The stock reeds, the thin very flexable metal ones, have that plate to max out their opening. I have heard that you can bend the stop plates out more if you want more top end. I don't know about removing them completely, unless you go with aftermarket synthetic ones. Then you remove the metal stops completely.

Yeah, I know when you buy the fiberglass ones you take the stop completly off. I wasn't sure if I could do this with the stock ones. Anybody else have any input?

Most 2 stroke bikes have them.

So, a tri-z doesn't have the reed stop? And they came with metal reeds stock correct?

Tri Zs came with them stock, and yes metal reeds also stock.

It says it right on the Boyesen instructions. I cant account for it on any others for the Tri Z, because I havent ran anything else but Boyesens on my Zs.

So, would it be a bad idea or no?

Try it... IMO the worst that could happen is it won't run right or just foul a plug. Go buy some Boyesen's for like $25 & be done with it, they're better anyway.
