on the ATC 200es the reverse is sometimes a little hard to engage. the trick is not to shift to neutral. shift to 1st and then choose forward or reverse. reverse will now engage smoothly. before i figured out this trick, i would often just push my trike backwards instead of going to the trouble to get into reverse.

i think your suppose to put the lever in revwerse then hit the shifter to 1st,also somtimes you need to rock your weight from front to back ,till you feel it click in somtime you can hear it too.

Its not too good for your sub stranny if you shift the range selector while your tranny is in gear. I messed up my tranny that way

yep.. you should really go to Neutral, then flip the switch, and then 1st.. Neutral, flip 1st.. etc..
I"m sure you can do it. physically.. but be certain you're not moving when you do !
