Just curious as to how many of you actually have working front and rear brakes on your rides !??
For the record. i got back brakes with new pads. and they work pretty good. they are not really a must in my opinion, but they sure come in handy at times !!!

I don't think i have ever used my front brakes....I didn't even notice a few weeks ago when the lever completely fell off and got lost while i was riding, until i got home and went wonder where that went. Thats just my opinion though, I could really use some new rear brakes for my 83R, and i mean like all the hardware. So if anyone has any, let me know.

My 110 needs brake shoes, so it has no brakes. My Husqvarna 50 dirtbikes front and rear brakes work. The front aren't working at the moment,(they need to be bled).

only machine i had with no brakes at all was my 84' 250r, heh, and let me tell you, i found out it IS a neccesity, was flying down a back road about 4 in the a.m. (no not drunk or anything like that, was just a late night), all of a sudden this truck at the intersection paid no attention to me at all, and just cranked in front of me, the road was just a one lane back road, with no shoulder, just big trees, LOL, and i was going way to fast to make the turn, i tried downshifting but there was no stopping in time, i bailed off the back and rolled and got major roadrash, while the bike proceeded to slam into the back of the truck, the guy wasnt mad, he said he blamed himself for not checking the road, besides, all it did was scrape his bumper, as for my R it just banged up the front end a bit. hehe, you can bet i bought new brakes! LOL.
i try to keep good brakes on everything i own now :)

Mostly flat marsh type stuff around here.. lay off the gas and you get to a stop pretty quick.
a few humps to go over here and there, but nothin major.

I never had brakes on my SX's for years until I got my 85 250es. I got pretty use to not having them although they would certainly have come in handy a lot of times.
Now with my 250ES I have back brakes only and I am actually getting quite use to having them. It gives me a little extra confidence going into turns, hills, etc.
Although I wouldn't put much money into the brakes if I had to fix them, as I could live without.

I got working front brakes, the pads are new but the cable is getting kinda rough, gonna replace it soon my rear brakes are gone the hub is there just no cable or pedal, the previous ownwer took the back brakes off cause he said most trikes have a tendency for the rear brake pedal to snag logs etc and break the frame,i might see if i can rig up a hand lever for the rear brakes...

My 250R has em, it would be crazy without.
None of my 200's have them, but I have the rear lever and cable coming. Already put in the 4$ shoes...:)
They are so cheap it almost seems stupid not to have them.

There is no way you could trail ride with me and survive without working front and rear brakes.

I've got working backs on both of mine, and sort of working fronts, I just use the trans to slow down, or let off the gas slightly.

on a 2 stroke brakes are alot more important because there is little to no compression breaking like there is on a 4 stroke to slow you down ... al a 2 stroke will do when u down shift is rev realy realy high and you risk blowing your engine up.... :Bounce

I never said that I didn't have brakes, the front work very well, almost too well, stainless line and 400ex master cylinder. I rarely use the back

Downshifting is for extreme emergencies only, brake pads R cheap IMO.
I'm always shocked @ how much I use the front on my R. The way I noticed was by almost endo'n over it on a steep dune. I'm more careful to even the brake'n out between the front & rear now.
Anyone who catches much air definitely needs rear ones for those "in flight nose high" corrections alone!
One last thing is that I've always been amazed @ how well these stock Honda disk brakes on the R's work, and with how little maintenance too. :D

i have front and rears on both my trikes, and i use both everytime i ride. when i first got the front brakes working, i was suprised to find that i cut the stopping time down in half. on the tecate, well, they are just a neccessity. i wouldn't drive it without them

All of my sport trikes have good working ft and rr brakes. Although, we use up 3 sets of fronts to 1 set of rears. Only time I use rr brakes is going downhill.

Well i guess i can update to this,i posted earlier that i had front breaks well not no more there worn out now,i was told the pads were new when i bought this machine, well if this is true they don't last long,i drove this machine pretty steady for almost the month i had it,and yesterday the breaks gace out(note they were dry)i found a place here that relines tractortrailer breaks and they said they'd my pads for about $30,i was thinkin if the stuff they use can stop a 18wheeler it should be able to stop a trike and actually last a bit longer...what do you guys think??also i'm gonna need a new break cable the casing on mine is shot and it's just gettin it really bad shape does honda still carry these?and what's the price like?
you can get new brake pads from honda for 30$ :) also i have breakes on all my bikes..my friends breakes on his 200m freez up when it gets cold..and they dont work right..it was funny this monring when we got 1ft of snow..he coudent pull his bike back to start it :D :beer

All mine that are running have both front and rear working brakes. My 350x rear was shot when I got it, so I used an almost new 300ex rear caliper. I get my brake pads from Hyper parts and they are $9.30 for 250r/350x fronts and 250r rears, and $9.64 for 350x rears.
heres the link
http://www.crosstec.com/wc.dll?ctwp~getapplctns1~1001~1002~1~0002~000274
They last better than the stock Honda pads. The ones on the rear my 85 R have been on there for over a year of hard riding. The rears on the 350x wear out faster than any of the others.

I have some on my X and they come in handy.
On my 110 I hardly ever use them but they work if I really need them, just remember not to push the back brakes when you are rolling backwards down a hill because you might have a sore head and a trike on top of you. :D
