just buy the flywheel puller, its only like 5-10 bucks, and it will more then pay for itself in the future.

yep ,,, thread it in as really tight as you can get it. if it ain't popped off them give it a whack ( protect the axle end with a small peice of wood )
and then tighten it up more.

I use an old desk to work on , my impact does the real work. If you don't have an impact, use an old trick-- get a socket and wrench then take a hammer (or your hand and tap the wrench in the direction that it has to go. it will go.

Hardest problem I had was keeping the motor from spinning. I had to make a wrench like tool to fit in the larger holes in the flywheel to hold it just to get the nut off!

if you have the head+piston out you can just stick a screwdriver in the connecting rod and put it down to BDC so the screwdriver is holding on the cases when you take the impact to it.. :)

you can use a lenghth of rope to hold the piston thats what we did when we were putting a flywheel weight on a friends CR250 dont know how well it would work with your valves though.

Vartiak5, just get the right tool, either a universal puller from Craftsman or a Honda flywheel puller. If you don't use the right tool, things may break or be beyond repair. With parts for these bikes going away so fast don't risk screwing it up out of lazines or being hasty. If you get a universal puller you can use it for removing steering wheels and other applications, so you won't be just buying a tool for one thing, I love mine it works on everything, you just have to be creative when putting it together for each application. By the way, I bought fork boots from you or some other Vartiak a few months ago off Ebay, they look great on my R.

i have herd in the past that to get the motor to lock up so you can take stuff off.... a very good idea is to take a semi thick piece of rope and put it down the spark plug hole and spin the engine over till the piston pulls the rope in and it will lock the engine up enouph for you to take parts off with out the engine trying to spin... then when you are done just spin the engine the oposite way and the rope will come out.... i have done this int he past and it is a very good trick but make sure you use good rope so it doesnt get cut off inside then you will have to get it out....

For future references guys, Heres a good tip for you. To hold the flywheel, get an appropriatly sized oil filter wrench (You know, the kind with the metal band and the handle on it that tightens and makes the band smaller) and put it around the flywheel. A Strap wrench, will work also. If your desperate, a big ass pair of channel locks will work but I STRONGLY suggest you not do that :D

huh...never thought of the oil wrench...man i normally just stick a screwdriver in the slots on the flywheel..:p

The oil filter wrench, and even the strap wrench both work extremely well, and is what I do.

u stuck a screwdriver in the connectiong rod at the top and let it hit one of the 4 poles and taht worked.

theres no way my 185 front axle is even wide enough to thread into the flywheel...its like a 1 inch diameter and the axle bolt is only about 3/4 if that..i did find an old water pipe today..if it was fine threaded it would have worked but it had to of been coarse..just my luck..its ok i got a flywheel puller comin to me by wensday 10.95 for a 185s is all they cost at my local atv shop
