I have an 84 250r. It has a 300cc kit (supposedly). every thing else is stock(no other mods). Im kind of dissapointed in it, i got smoked by a blaster. Im willing to admit it. my r has decent quickness off the line but thats after that i get sent a postcard that says c-ya. Help me out, help me make my R faster.

thanx

by the way im running 18's
maybe some of you guys know some good tips and tricks to give me more of a rush ;)

300kit and wooped by a blaster? ... weak. I have some experience modding the old aircoolers, (my old one)., first of all, i highly doubt you have a 300kit (not calling you a liar, just the guy who told you that), but just incase, can you take pictures? if not, i'll tell you how to tell if it is or not.. now, to modding, here's what a had done to mine.

-wiseco piston (.40 over, DONT bore more then you have too)
-ported/polished topend
-36mm carb (honed out even bigger)
-boyesen rad valve (reed valve from later year R's work including trxR's)(ported)
-lightened flywheel
-heavy duty clutch kit
-dg pipe which isnt much better then stock
-k&n off the carb filter
-honed out exhaust manifold
-lightened crank
-all new bearings + seals (if your gonna go into real modding, would highly reccomend)
-shaved head
-answer silencer
-hinson reed spacer
-white bros. boost bottle (practically useless, little difference, not worth the $$$)
-liquid cooled head once in awhile (took it on and off, good luck finding one, sold mine long ago)

the only problem i had, is that the air cooled r's get hot as they are stock, and when you do all that to them, they heat up in no time, so it had to be turned into a drag bike, which is the reason i parted it out, and got a 85.

Stock blaster goes 55mph top's.I have a modified 84 250r no 300 kit,It beat's my blaster badly my blaster has a pipe and roost boost and shaved head.My 84 also give's my 85 250r a run for it's money also.My 84 250r has a dg pipe and silencer,I port matched the port's,put a 34mm carb from a 85 250r,shaved the head,aftermarket filter,You probly need ring's soon to get smoked by the blaster.

okay thats nice and all but to do all that trailprotrailpro going to poor about 2-3k to get there. if u got trailprotrailpro self sent home by a blaster something is WRONG!!! RED FLAG RIGHT THERE. the only way i can see u getting beat is its time for a new topend or u need to look threw the engine or something... iam shocked personaly... not to burn u or anything i just havent heard of being beat by a blaster. but the best way to tell that u have a 300R kit is if u look at the front of the head and look at the rear u will notice a downward slope from the front to the back. but i would do this list which i have done
1. bore so its cleaned up and have honed about 200 for whole thing including piston *trinity*
2. dg pipe/ silencer about 250 *DK*
3. shave head (havent doen) 90 *trinity*
4. port and polish 300 *trinity*
5. 20 inch tires with a 40-38 rear sprocket i have a 40 from DK forgot price
6. new clutch if u need one 120 *DK*
7. 85-86 carb (havent done) *EBAY*
8. boyseen rad valve 150 *DK*
9. reed spacer 29.99 *HONDA DEALER*
also iam workin on a pro flow style kit for the 83/84 R's

Maybe its the 18 inch tires that let the blaster walk away on top speed? I remember Jeb saying that his 85 Tecate with 18's didnt have a high top speed but got there damn quick.

I think you should start with an 85 250R Boyseen rad valve, clamp on UNI filter or UNI filter in an open airbox, DG pipe or at least a DG silencer and up the tooth count on the front sprocket by one tooth.

Wouldn't buying new rings for a 300 cc 250R piston be nearly impossible?

the motor has great compression. so i dont think its the rings. I went to a drag race in upstate new york about a month ago. I just so happened to have my three wheeler with me so i entered. I had to enter in the 2 strokeair cooled modified class because they were inspecting all the entries and i wasnt sure what my top end was so i didnt risk it. the other air cooled 2 stroke was a blaster (8 of them) Running on alcohol. i thought i could give them a run but knew i would get beat. then i got beat by a stock blaster about 2 weeks ago it had 22 in. tires. My R doesnt bog or anything, it rides real smooth. and its definetly not the stock cylynder. Maybe its a 200R hehe wouldnt that be swell. ill take some pics and post em.

compression check means nothn mayb trailprotrailpro bottom end isnt holding compression. then u might need to check out the carb see how that is.

I say its the tires man, too shortly geared now that you have 18's.

where did you race in upstate NY? (its where im from), i know we got some mean ass blasters up here, D&D's blaster was whoopin on SOME trx r's at a harrisville drag a couple weeks ago.

copenhegan, is the place it was pretty sweet. there were a couple of 200x's and a little tri zinger. i was the only R three wheeler. after i enter my class i realized i could have entered in a couple of othe classes with the 200x's. one kid on the 200x won a wheelie contest and the same kid took third in the drags against 300ex's. it was a great time.

as for my wheeler im thinking it might be the tires also. i recall that blaster had a trenga racing motor. it wasnt a very short distance that we raced so could have definetly been the 18's. the guy had 22's. what kind of carb boot do i use to hook up the 85-86 34mm carb. and was size jet do you think?

Never count out those little Blasters, with some good mods they can be plenty potent and with some heavy mods they are awsome. Running on alcohol you say? No wonder ya lost. As for the stock one, dont tell too many people about it.

sounds weird, i have a 300 head on my 84, with k&n no airbox etc and tore apart a nice blaster on a dirt road the other day, and i started in 2nd. he beat me off the line, but i ripped past him when i hit the powerband in third and never looked back. beat him by a good 30 feet on something like 300 ft drag.
