I am trying to get the Green Machine ready for Glamis and noticed a crack in the frame from too much jumping. I want to strip everything off the bike so I can really check the frame and weld everything up at once. So far I just see the one crack though. It is just above the right footpeg along the little brace they put there. Anyhow, I can't figure out how to take off the complete front end in one piece ( I know this bike inside and out but have never attempted to remove the front end ). I removed the handlebars and controls and then removed the bolt in the center of the triple tree. I can't figure out how the thing goes together........I know the star shaped nut under the top of the triple tree has something to do with it but I can't find anything useful in my factory manual......HELP!!!!!! (oh I want to pull everything off so I can repaint the frame after welding)

I don't know a lot about Tecates, but they can't be too much different than my 250R. Once the large top nut is removed and the fork clamps are un- bolted, the top half of the triple should pull off. Then remove the 2nd nut that holds the bearing races and everything else should slide right out, but the tightness of the fit/clamps may make it tough. Try prying the clamp open slightly to loosen it from the forks.

so I do need to separate the top and bottom then? Generally speaking, can everything be removed without requiring removal of the bearings or is that necessary too? Thanks for the help...

Mr. Sandman is correct. You must remove the top and bottom half along with the bearings. If you figure out a way to remove the whole fork assembly without cuting the neck off the frame let me know :p LOL

Ok the triple trees are staying on and I'll jsut drop the forks out.....sounds like masking the trees will be easier than removing them.....

my 85 is simple as pie to remove. Take off the top bolt, remove the top tripple, remove the center bolt thats hidden by the top tripple, then everything, forks, bottom tripple, wheels and tire sound just pull out the bottom. Fifteen minutes work for me, if that.
