Anyone, I believe they all have Hi/Lo range, elec start, and are chain drive, so whats the diff?

200m and 200s are chain drive 200m has electric start,i think the 200e can be chain or shaft driven and i think the 200e has high low and reverse, the 200s is the most basic of all just a pull start and lights and that about all....i'm not 100%sure about the 200e tho i don't know much about those..

My dad has a 200es(corrected). It has Hi/Low reverse, electric start and shaft drive.

Honda 200e is not shaft drive, the latter 1984 model 200es was a shaft drive. The 200m has electric start but no reverse. The 200s is a pullstart and has no reverse either. All 3 machines are chain drive.

Correction it is a "200es". I am sure of it, because is does have shaft drive.

correction...the 84 models are "es" because they have shaft drive and the pre 84's are 200e

Hondas
200 = chain drive, pull start
200s = chain drive, pull start
200m = chain drive, pull and electric start
200e = chain drive, pull and electric start, hi-lo sub. trans., factory racks
200es = shaft drive, pull and electric start, hi-lo-reverse sub. trans., factory racks

THanks guys, that was well said. So now my question is what engine has chain drive and reverse that I can use, and is at least 200cc, anything???

The 200sx & 300ex 4 wheelers are chain drive with reverse.

I think they are both kickstart though, which would interfer with the rear plastic.

The kicker shouldent interfere becasue those models models Howdy suggested are quads, quads have a forward kick like a trike also so i dont see how it would interfere with the fender assembly.

The 300ex is electric start but another option the 250x is a kick start.

yes and actually the 300ex engine is electric start. I doubt it will fit in a 200x frame (If thats what your wanting to do) since it is nearly the same size of a 350x engine. I'd consider one that Howdy left out, which is an 86-87 125m engine :-)

Yes, I left that one out because he wanted a 200cc or bigger. The 125m motor is pull start and with a few mods ( head & cam ) it will generate a noticable power gain ( verses a stock 125m motor ). I did this to our one machine ( "The Wrecker" ).

OldSchoolin is also right. I didn't even think of that one.

yeah I never thought of a 250x engine...thats probably about the closest thing.

Like howdy said the 200sx quad engine could work. It is chain drive, has electric start, reverse and is packup pull start so no messing with the kickstart if that is a problem. Isn't that engine similar to the 86-87 200x engine?

Yes, the 200sx motors are simular to the 86-87 200x motors. How ever the 86-87 200x motors are drastically different than the regular 185-200cc motors. I am asuming he wanted the motor for a 185 ( from another thread ). Asuming I am on the right line of thinking then the 200sx motor can be taken off the list of possible motors. But I could be wrong about what I am asuming the motor is for.

yup a 185 is what its for

So the 250x engine would work huh?

You would need to do major frame mods to make any of the 300ex, 250x, 200sx motors fit into a 185 frame. You would also need to strengthen the frame to handle the added power.

Now If you do all the work to get a such motor to work into a 185. What do you gain? More power on a non suspended machine is simply a waste. As soon as you chop / modify a frame on a non suspended machine you have just cut the value of it drastically ( IMO ). I do know it is harder if not impossible to get your money back out of it if / when you sell it.

Bottom line is don't do it, unless you have time & money to throw away. Also, I have found most such projects never get completed completely.
