Ok here goes I have an 84 250r that I just picked up. The motor is supposed to be fresh from a complete top to bottom rebuild. I have had the head off and the crosshatch is fresh and everything is clean with no carbon build up. The cylinder is .80 over and it checks out good on both a standard compression test and a Leakdown test so perhaps the motor is indeed fresh. The carb was dirty so I took it out and cleaned it (Dipped overnight, All holes reamed with rifle brush bristles, blown out with compressed air.)
FMF adjustable reeds and Dg pipe (Yeah I know) K&N Air filter. This thing is running like crap. Motor loads up at low speed wont rev clean. Once the motor catches up with it self it takes off like a rocket. Mix is 40 to 1 semi synthetic Lucas racing oil. I think that the reeds might be shot I flipped them in the reed cage and it runs better but still builds revs slow and bogs under load. Any thoughts or suggestions I am not that experienced with two strokes thanks in advance.

Sounds like it needs re-jetted.

Sounds like an air/fuel problem. Had to change my jets because I was having the same problem.

whats the plug look like?whens the last time it was changed?

sounds like the guy who had it befor...it was worn to hell and but a big ass main in it to keep it running then rebuilt it and didnt change it back..try a smaller main jet

make sure all jets are clean as hell.

Plug comes out black and wet. I have changed the plug a few times. I belive that wet and black means rich? The last time I put in a fresh plug it ran better put blew white smoke like crazy. What range of jetting am I looking at both pilot and main. Needle position? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

i got a 84 like yours last week ,same mods, i run a 132 main, needle in the second clip from the top, 40-1 klotz supertechnaplate, and a 50 pilot stock, #8 plug, stock 30mm carb

My 84 has a 125 main, with needle clip in center slot, stock carb and I use B9ES plugs. I had the same symptoms till I went to a smaller main jet. Runs much better now.

did u check trailprotrailpro trany oil that caused the problem on my kd 80

Ok here is an update. I Cleaned the carb again. Blew out the pilot jet #50 and the main #130, poped in a fresh plug and cleaned the K&N. Trike is running much better this thing has nuts. Still a little slow to rev and the mid is kinda flat seems like is takes a long time to get on the pipe. Idle is good revs are quick with no load. Under load it stutters till high rpm smooths out if I grab the next gear. Driving me crazy so close but yet so far away.

Check your plug again and see if it is still blck and wet. If so you may want to try a smaller main jet.

Droped the main jet one size. Raised the clip on the needle one notch and Viola this thing rips!!!! revs much quicker and gets up on the pipe right NOW!!!
Needless to say I am a Happy camper thanks for all your help and advice.

My 225 Dxn is flat in 3rd and into the begining of 4th.This is only after the machine has not warmed up.Once it warms up watch out,the thing moves out quick.What could be the problem?
