help 200s will not start

lets start off by saying i know nothing about bikes but i do go to school for car mechanics and i know a lot about cars but i need some help. well a few mouths ago i got it from my friend witch had not riding it in a year or so so i cleaned it all up and it ran ok but back fired and missed lot crazy and then he broke the pull start so now we have to jump it and that's how i left it when i went to school IM home for winter break so i tried to start it and it will not start in sputters but will not fire up and it is puffing smoke out from the air cleaner like as if the timing was off. any ideas on what to look at and how do you check the timing and is there a site with a service manual or something like that so i can find out so info any help would be greatly appreciated.

First take out the spark plugg and check the plugg and then cleen air filter and point after u do that have some one tow u behinde a car on it but make sure its in a high gear because it wont put to much stress on it try that

Yes, do clean/replace the spark plug. Don't ty to start it right away. Next take off the exhaust and clean it out. The engine is not getting enough air.
