why dont you just upgrade to bigger trike, it would probably wind up cheaper because a bigger engine thats not meant to fit is going to take cutting and welding.
but thats just my .02 cents worth

Try an aircooled 250R motor, they rip and the motor isn't that big.

You can also try a CR 125 motor.

How good are you at welding?

250R Motor sounds Good. I can weld pretty good I have all the equipment (arc welder Ect.) From what ive gatherd a 350x motor wont fit. I could go out and buy a 350X or 250 R and probably will at some point but im looking foward to modifying my 200x cause its fun and just to be able to say i did it.....

If you can fabricate and weld you can drop almost anything in there.

I'd like to see a big jet ski or snowmoblie motor in a three wheeler someday.

A 2-stoke sounds great but you'll have to do some serious frame mods to get the exhaust out.

Ok, how about an XR400R motor with an aftermarket pipe, cam, and 440 kit? That little motor would rip, make sure to find an extended swinger too. I want to see this one.

Well if were going all out,how about a sled motor?

just through in an XR 200 motor. six speed tranny, and an improved head design, and the best part of all, no mods required.

is the xr400r motor a 2 stroke? i want to avoid cutting and weldig the frame .....no prob adding brackets and such though..does someone make like a 350 2stroke???

OldSchoolin86

The XR400R motor is a 4 stroke.

What's your budget on this project?

Are you talking about the 86-87 frame or earlier? If it's an earlier frame you won't get a 2 stroke in it without cutting and welding and I have my doubts even on the 86-87 frame.

I thought 2 stroke motors were smaller....I guess the pipes are to huge though huh?

Money is not much of an object Im not gonna go spend $3000 on a new motor or anything I just want the fastest 3 wheeler and i like the size & weight of the 200x

What year frame do you have?

I thought about putting an air-cooled 250r engine in my 200x. I was going to flip and rework the swingarm and frame, but then I talked to this guy I work with who used to build 200x race engines (back in the day). He told me that a 250r engine would have too much torque and I would end up twisting the swingarm and possibly the frame. I'm not trying to discourage you. I would love to see something super radical done to a 200x. I just thought I'd bring up the torque issue.

I appreciate the feed back ........I guess there is such a thing as too much torque.........My frame is an 1985

That sucks, the down tube is right in the way of any 2-stroke exhaust you would put in. How hard would it be to pick up a cr250 and and put your forks, swinger, body and tank on it?

Try a motor from as Yamaha RD series. there are 125cc, 250, 350, and 400's. They are aircooled and the stock exhausts don't have expansion chambers which will help with the routing of the pipes. just an idea.

OldSchoolin86

Do they come out of the center of the motor? If they do they won't work without frame mods.

RD's are twin cylinder. There will be one pipe on each side of the frame down tube.

hey, the monster was a 200x at one time. see monster threads.

Sounds like it would be worth looking into then.

RD 350 is basicly a Banshee motor. Why not try an 84/85 Tecate 250 motor? The exhaust exits to the right side and the pipe wraps the downtube towards the left.

Awsome info......I had a tecate a while back That thing ripped...I kept it at a friends house and he let someone on it(big mistake) I knew i should have put a thumb throttle on it. The trike launched him back and he wouldnt let go must have been 4th gear ...he went like a fireball through the neibors plate glass window after the flowerbed launched him about 6ft in the air....I wish I was there at least to say goodbye to that awsome machine as the cops took it away.......

hey man i had a 70's suzuki tm400 oil injected 2stroke motor in my '85 200x, i can email you the pic(s) if you want to show you how it fit, currently i modified again to fit in my xl350 motor... as the earlier replys stated id try to avoid 2strokes b/c of exhaust problems, a 4 stroke can run w/ a piece of pipe coming out of the head, and you cant forget the low end on a good one either!
