Hey, after reading that email, he's not such a bad guy after all!

I'd love to see the 82 YZ collection. I love allot of those old Yamaha dirtbikes he listed.

One thing though, he needs to research the "first liquid cooled" claim hes making. If I remember right, the first production liquid cooled Yamaha YZ was the 1981 YZ125. It was not as awesome looking as the "re-vamped" 82 models. It had the aluminum "A" Frame Mono-X swingarm and had the radiator on the forks. I think the rest of the YZ line in 81 was all air cooled.

I'll have to search for some pics. I love 79-84 Yamaha Dirt Bikes. 84 was the last yellow and black one models. I believe the European 84's were red and white and then in 85 Yamaha added a front disc brake and switched the color to red and white. I'd like to see him add some ITs to the collection. I had an 86 YZ 125 for years. Wish I'd kept it. I still have a 78 DT 175.

Hey Jeb!
You the one that needs to do the research more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5x2 ;5x4;5x5 These were the ones with the radiators in front of the handlebars! .But they ran hot! So Yamaha Redesigned Them In 83 Using The Spilt Radiators Design.the 82's Had The Squard Shaped Head Only Used The One Year.81 Was The Last Year Air Cooled On Some Models ! Last Year For The Yz 465 ,which They Changed The Bore And Called It The Yz 490.making 82 The First Year Of Production Of The Yz490.you Are Right About 84 Being Last Year For Being Yellow And Black .

Hey the infamous Mr. Triztunes! Glad you posted!

I think I probably misunderstood your email that was posted. :p I see you've collected the first year that they all were liquid cooled, well except the 490 of course. :D The 82's had the radiators on the forks. Yep, in 83 they went to split radiator (yellow tank/black shrouds) and dropped the "under the seat and tank" mono-shock for a more modern design that had the linkage under the swingarm. The shock was still on a pretty good angle. Seems like I remember reading that the 81 YZ 125 would sometimes pinch the radiator hoses when turning. I've got an old issue of dirt bike still that has a test of the 82 YZ125. Like I said earlier, I've always loved the old Yamahas well, even since they were'nt old! I will really enjoy seeing your collections! :beer

Something I'd love to see, or maybe even build someday is to take a yellow & black '84 YZ 80 and convert it to a Tri-Z 80!

A friend of mine had an 86 YZ490 back in the early 90's. That thing was just sick. A true "widow-maker".
