Not in real bad shape. Got it for a good price. Runs excellent. Need to weld the clutch perch, lube the throttle cable and a few other things. What do you think?

Yeah TrailPros aren't first on my list of favorite tires either. I think those holeshots will probably go on there pretty nicely if the rims are 9's. I haven't even checked :p

Nothing to do with this post really but i was wondering if anybody new what the name of the peice that holds the front break cable away from the bike on a 85/86 R...It basically looks like a bent peice of metal..Its on the left side near the frork..Anybody know?

Excellent Bill, great find. You will find working on an aircooled pinger to be very rewarding (and easy!). You will also like the meatier bottom end. We needs to get you a Grab rail!.

Yeah thats one of the things it needs. I'm going riding tomorrow morning with some friends (At a new exclusive place that might be turning into an off-road park and wanted a few riders for feedback, can't miss the chance to partake in that) but Tomorrow evening I'll be able to go over it really good and check things out.

From what I've seen so far, 2 handle bar clamp bolts are broke off in the tripples, needs just about all the back brake stuff (No caliper, disc, or mastercylinder. I need a grab bar like you said, Need a front mastercylinder, need to work on the clutch perch like I had mentioned before...really I think thats about it. The gas tank is super clean on the inside, not a drop of rust. Need to lube the throttle cable (a bit sticky feeling from setting). And a seat cover. A few things, but nothing really major.

Good Stuff Billy! Not a bad looking rig either. Im just hoping it doesnt take up all your spare time that you could be using for the "thumpin 500"!

Cheers,

Matt

how do you lube the cable?

What I usually do is take the cable completely off, and hold it verticly, get some very thin oil such as air tool oil, fork oil, ect and just pour a little down inside the cable body, work the cable up and down a few times, repeat until its dripping out the other end.

Hey Billy, if you have a bucket of used motor oil laying around, take the cable completey off and get it by itself, let the cable soak in that oil overnight, then the next morning take it out, wipe most of the oil off and then hang it up for a few minutes to let the rest of the oil out. This method works excellent and you would not believe the difference it makes! It actually makes the cable work better than brand new!! Your method will work ok but if you let it soak overnight, man it lets it get in the housing and really loosen up all that crud. BTW, nice old-schooleR

Na this is another one. That particular one your talking about is still sitting in that guys yard. I went to the guys house twice and no one was ever there or would come to the door so I just kinda figured piss on it.

Billy, good job on the find, and have fun with the new toy.

Fox, I would guess that it's called a front brake line guide.

hey Xowner I'll make a list up and let you know, as long as your promise not to price gouge me  :p

I got the clutch perch welded today...working on getting the 2 broken bolts out of the tripple tree, they are being real turds. They will surrender soon though.

Kind of a small update on it. The 2 bolts finally came out of the tree after we put it in the mill (More then one way to skin a cat!). I got my cables back on, put everything together and went to take it for a ride.

Now, earlier I had noticed that the left rear rim appeared to have been re-drilled and grooved to accept a different bolt pattern. I kinda glanced at it and it seemed to good enough to go for a quick ride so I went. I rode it for probably 30 minutes (Not real hard because of no brakes) and it seemed to do good but the engine seemed really rich. Anyways, I was coming into the yard and was turning towards the barn. I was considering powersliding it but didn't and its a good thing too. As I made the turn I felt the left rear wheel get wobbly, I looked over at it and it was all cock-eyed. I got off and inspected. Evidently during my previous inspection of the "universal rim" modification the previous own did, I neglected to remember that aluminum does not really hold that well. Anyways, 3 of the 4 studs had pulled right through the rim in places where there was not much material left. I really didn't think it was that bad but I guess it was hard to see since it was partly under the lug nuts.

So now I need some new rims which I think I might have some here I can use. Oddly enough, the right rear rim is in perfect condition and is tight as can be.
