ok well im not going to chrome or paint the axle and froks so what i want to no is what all do i need to do to polishthe axle and fork bottoms?
This is what i think
1. sand off all paint
2. sand with a heavy grit sand paper
3. sand with lighter git paper
4. sand with fine git paper
5. use mothers polish and polish it in like i am waxing a car
6. clear coat them
are these the right steps?

i haven't tried to polish steele ( axles ) but have some experiance i alu polishig.
what i have done as a rule is to sandblast and then use #7 buffing compound ( with a big buffing pad and a eletric drill ).
the steel parts i have only sandblasted + painted ,,, i clear coat all the parts afterwards,,,,

You can eliminate the sanding on those fork tubes if you have an electric motor like a bench grinder. Get the right kind of pads and compounds and you can do them in about 2 hours. Mothers is a polish not a rubbing compound, you will save yourself alot of time by using the correct compounds and pads. you can find alot of good products here, www.eastwood.com
