This little honda 70's tank has rust all over the exterior. Its pretty bad IMO, I was gonna just sand it off but thats not gonna cut it. If someone can recommend a rust remover that actually works and doesn't break the bank, that would be great. Thanks

For heavily rusted pitted parts, I like to use a wire wheel on a gringer, or sandblast the part.

Naval Jelly works good also. It a liquidy paste. Turns rust black and disolves it

There is some stuff called Rust Converter. You can get it at any napa store. You just use a brush, put it on, and it does the work for you. It turns black, and turns into primer. I would then sand it really good, and still try to get off as much as you can.

We have some stuff down here at alot of people use called Ospho. It makes a chemical reaction that litterally makes the rust curl right off the surface. Very good stuff, comes in one gallon plastic jugs and costs about $40 I think

I wish it was just surface rust...would make this a lot easier. :)
Maybe I can get my hands on something that works around here..after I looked a little harder most of the products contain the same acids so with luck I will get a brand that doesn't dilute the crap out of it. That Ospho sounds like something worth finding. Thanks for the replies

I will try and remove the deep stuff with a die grinder I have. My problem is patience and this sucker will heat and warp metal in no time flat, figured that out on my truck. Given the many dents already in the tank it wouldn't be that much of a loss. I tried to grind some of the rust off with a stone and it took forever to reach rustless metal...I need the converter for added assurance the filler and paint don't bubble. Only time will tell I suppose..thanks for the reply
