So what is a desert seat?

vartiak15
08-09-2004, 09:31 PM
a desert seat has 3inches more foam in it. so it sits higher

I think desert seats look gay on R's.

I second that.. Desert seats=queer seat. Kinda like the old banana seat on your sister bicycle when you were growing up. They might be comfortable, but they look ghey!

I third that. That would just look stupid and sissy.

I bought them at a bike shop in Denver last week.

Nope not calling you a sissy, but if you have to have a fluffier seat does that make you a sissy or just smarter. I'm sure it is more comfortable but I prefer the looks of the 85 seat over the 86 and that is what they look like to me.

Those graphics R a Verry Nice! So when R U gonna "jump the shark" there Evil!?!?!

As for the thick foam desert seat comments... you can always replace a worn '0' ring on your trike, but how about the one on your bung. ;)

Maybe these people bashing desert seats just cant afford them!!

Really nice R. I dig the rear fender graphics.

I had a High Flite 6" seat on my 200X and it smashed out in the middle and I only weigh 150lbs. Lost its foam support. I bought a OEM blue one on ebay to replace it.

Blazer got the 350X seat and scoops from MR ATC....

and I got a desert seat ordered for my 82R .... with me being 6'4", and with a honking 4 gal IMS tank on there, it will look better than a stock one and also get me sitting up a few inches taller. Don't knock it to you try it...

Just found the plastic's up for bid on ebay. Whats the deal??? I'm SHOCK'd, but I'm sure someone else will buy em all to get that "EVIL KNIVEL look"... :p

Yah I FIB'd on ya, but I know how loyal some of the people in here are & damnit, not Damnit from PHX, I'm kinda on their side with this one.

i can understand when people part out a POS, but not something like that. That's a shame. I think you'd get more money for it as a whole.

smokinwrench
09-24-2004, 10:43 PM
I offered it forsale and NO ONE was interested.

Trust me your WRONG about more money for it whole.

I didn't want to do it but I wanted something that I am allowed to race with. They don't allow trikes to race here in the local harescramble series. I don't have enough money to keep it and buy a new machine.

how much COULD u get for it whole?

how much COULD u get for it parted out?

smokinwrench

I got offered $1000.00 locally.

I'm not done selling yet, but everything is selling very good.

Look at it this way. Someone is selling a 250SX for 400 bucks.
There is a set of triple clamps and forks that sold for 100 bucks not too long ago.
There is a differential that sold for 200 bucks not too long ago also.
There was a dash that sold for 40 bucks.
There was also a carburetor that sold for 50 bucks.
And a tow hitch that sold for 50.

Now this 250sx is complete, and all the items listed above are in good conditon. So he could have parted it out and made buckets more money and he still had lots of stuff left over to sell. See? Also, the guy selling is doing whats better for him, not what is good for his sport.

What are you getting? Seems like a new race quad would cost alot more than a parted trike could bring. Bummer about your R. Have fun with the new ride

Geez man.. I would have bought it just to save it's life (err... if it was nearby and I wasn't broke that is).

Yep I have heard that tons of times. "If I had the cash I would buy it".

AMEN TO THAT, smoke, i had the same BS when i parted mine, "IF i had the cash i'd buy it" well, you DONT, so you have no business with anyone parting a bike out or not, everyone says the same things, such as;

"why part it out when you can sell it whole and keep the relic all in one piece etc etc.."

-Because everyone who wants and can afford a R has one, and the only people who dont have them but are "dieing for an R" either have no money at all or dont wanna cough up the cash, i got so many trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro offers when i tried selling my R whole, like "durr i'll give you 200 bucks and a couple boxes of 200x parts", and other nonsence like that. it seems all everyone was doing was pulling out there junk box and seeing what they could trade, YEAH! I think i'll trade my complete 85 R for a rusty 200x frame! or maybe a blown to hell 84 tecate!

-Location, i am in new york, i got one good offer from cali., but i am not about to ship the dumb thing from NY to Cali, i WOULD of if he payed for it, but he said "i'll give you _______ and you pay shipping" i am not about to spend half my earnings to ship the dumb thing

"why are you parting it out, atc's are getting harder and harder to find"

-take a look on ebay, tell me how many items you see for 250R, there is no shortage, (this next line has been gone over a million times)- if noone parted out there bikes, WHERE WOULD THE PARTS YOU NEED COME FROM? how do you feel when you look on ebay and find the part you need for a good price, and its in GOOD shape, well, newsflash! its from peopling selling parts off there bikes, and GOOD PARTS COME FROM GOOD BIKES, how many people wanna buy a rusted pitted POS part?

"you could of sold it to me"

-as said before... yeah, im gonna sell it to the dumb fool who offered his lunch money (and he eats lunch off the mcdonalds dollar menu)

ALSO, i got alot of complaints and bitches about me parting my R, but what was different about these ones,, was, , about a week later the same fools e-mailed me asking for parts, can you guess what i said to them? use your imagination because it isnt board friendly.

now, how about some numbers here.

highest price i got offered for my R -$2000 (the guy lived in Cali and wanted me to pay shipping) which would of left me with around 1000 after all the bullshit

so far from parting my bike - well over 2 grand, and here is a list of parts i still have;

-frame
-swingarm
-axle hardware
-rads
-rad mounts
-grommets
-tripple clamps with bearings
-front rim/tire
-rear rims/tire
-front hub
-front axle
-front brake rotor
-rear brake rotor
-rear brake rotor hub
-rear sprocket
-airbox
-airfilter
-airbox tubes
-engine parts
-complete wiring harness
-engine skidplate
-all the hardware off the bike
-chain
-chain tensioner
-footpeg mounts
-petc-ock
-AND MORE

NOW TELL ME WHAT YOU WOULD DO.

AMEN TO THAT, smoke

lol, jesus man calm down!

Nobody's mad at him for doing it. It's just sad to see such a nice one get parted out. Gives me that taking your dog to the vet to be put down kinda feeling. :(

I went to a bike salvage yard and wanted to take all the old wrecked and rusted trikes home with me. This is why I hate going to the dog pound too by the way. I'm a big softy.

Hey I know what ya mean, I was just bust'n his balls casue I thought this thread woulda come up with the "hey part'n it out, what do you want" reply. Now I know he probably didn't do that cause of the Backlash of trike-savers, whatever, I was still kind of shocked.. see'n as its definately a good look'n trike to say the least.

That being said, check this out... someday I'll be buy'n a TRX of some sort and canibalizing the best parts off my ATC too! Nothing anyone can do to stop me either, its just the way its gotta be. I'll put the trike more back to stock and let it go cheap'ly too. :beer

Damnit... the sound of little puppys barking... I may have to have help with the senitmental parts of the process though. :p
