yes,if done correctly makes a big difference.after I had my atc200 engine apart and saw how dirty the head was (i cleaned it up some)it made me realize how much a ported head would help...

A good mid cam makes a big difference. If you want to get more agressive you can get a race style cam but you'll have to upgrade your springs for sure if you do that. Going back to basics in never hurts to do a valve job. Little leaks mean less compression. If you want you can go to a 12:1 piston but the added heat created will desire a little more octane in the fuel. Also if you go with a full race cam(that I don't recomend) make sure you have proper valve clearence from the piston. Porting the head is good but if your not careful you can create "dead spots" that will have a negative effect on the flow. It never hurts to polish though. Get her dialed in just right and you'll have a pretty mean 200x. If your doing all that don't forget to make sure you have a good clutch pack. You can stroke it too but the small power gain doesn't justify the cost. Good Luck

I guess from the lack of response that no one here has a 200x like you are describing. I have a 200x with a WebCam 89a grind (mid range), Wiseco 10.25:1 piston in 65.5 mm, mild cylinder head porting (really just a clean up), full SuperTrapp w/ jet-hot and 18 disks, I switch between the stock carb (K&N with stock airbow w/o lid) and a modified Mikuni VM26 which is 27.7mm w/ K&N clamp on filter. I have a brand new cylinder head that I am considering sending out for a complete port job, along with switching to a 12:1 piston and top end cam. Maybe a stroke job also... Anyone that says their 200x runs with banshees or 250r's is blowing smoke up your ^$$. It just isn't gonna happen. MY .02.

My 85 200X has taken a few laps around the modification circuit. It has or had the following mods: Bassani Chrome Pipe, 28mm F/S carb kit, Big Al's #2 cam, White bros. Valve springs & retainers, 5 angle valve job with stock valves, minor porting & exhaust polishing, 12.5-1 piston (10.25-1 now) Barnett clutch, Falicon Lightened & balanced "Triangle" crank (Stock now) and also a Lightened flywheel. Chassis includes a Terry Fork kit and heavy shock spring. Axle extenders and 18" Nankang knobbies on stock wheels as well as 18" fast trekkers on 9" chrome wheels.

Engine reliability was superb and the only problems were of my doing. The flywheel was initially installed incorrectly (By me) on the beautiful Falicon crank and reinstalled properly immediately but I guess the stress cracked the flywheel end of the crank. I didn't know it at the time but years later the flywheel sheared off the crank half and that was the end of that...The carb was a royal pain to install and required a "Dent" in the frame to clear.

Curtis.
