View Full Version : 225 yamaha 1984
i have never owned one but just got a chance to pick one up. what are the specifics. does it have rear suspension, electric start, chain or drive shaft. also how good are these. all i got now is two stroke trikes and am looking for just pretty much a put around and mud toy.

Its a fully suspended, auto clutch, electric start, shaft driven Yamaha version of a ATC250SX. Actually the YTM225DX was around 2 full years before the SX. Not the best suspension numbers, not the fastest trike on the trails - but - one thing they are legendary for is their mud prowess and they are great in the snow. Bolt a set of good mud type tires on it and it will rival any 4x4 in the muck. I curently own a blue '84 thats on loan to my buddy who rides it on his about 50 acres of forest/farm land and he loves it and uses it every day for chores. The three 22" tires make it a very forgiving and well handling trail trike that has good torque and excellent floatation in mud.
well thats sounds what i am looking for. i am getting too old for a pull cord. thanks for the info
Congrads on the purchase or the finest trail trike on earth.
well i got it this morning. replaced the plug and rebuilt the carb and she runs good. plastics are badly sun bleached but what do you expect for 100.00

Congrats on the pickup. I would say that I like the 225's as well. They are a good all around machine.
I bet the razor blade creates a super smooth finish.LOL

Dammit! Beat me to another one! LOL Where do you find these good deals? Maybe I am not looking hard enough. Trikes are really hard to find here around Houston. There is a ATV junkyard somwhere around Clevland,Texas. When you pass by, all you can see is red. There is alot of trikes out there. I will make a trip out there one of these days.
if you are going out there let me know. i will even drive. also you will not guess were i found it, kemah! i think i am going to take it to the deer lease up in riverside it is really built for that type of thing

Sweet! Sounds cool. :D You found it in Kemah? I Know someone in Texas City who had 2 125ms.He traded one of them and gave me the other. Neither one ran though.Thats as close as I have came to trikes in my area. :( I bought my 110 down in Liberty. I am thinking about selling her(or trading) and getting a dirtbike. A old school 125 or a yz 80 or something. Are there any bikes for sale around you? let me know please. :)
i got rid of an 88 kx80 and a 83 yz80 about a month ago. they had lower rod bearing problems in both of them and the yz needed a top end job, but the kx was super clean. the best way to find trikes is to ask everyone you can. i ask at work, friends and hell strangers it has always worked for me. i might be getting a hold of a 82 yz490 if intrested. its kinda big for you but would be a blast. it supposedly has just been sitting up, was running before.
