i'd pull the motor all the way apart and clean and inspect every thing. you're cylender is goingto need to be bored or replaced. since your going to have it apart and if you got the money i would put some powroll parts in the motor.

so it was still running with that crap in there???

my guess is that its either been in their for a while if the engine locked up before you owned hte trike n it never got cleaned out or its from the bottom end. it would not or barely run if it blew a ring. it would either smoke like a biatch or it would have no compression. If those sound like your symtoms it will need a rebuild. When a piston ring does go like that you should check and see why it went. If it was from just wear/tear or mabe you have a lazy/broken oil pump, or just not enough oil. I worked on a big red 1 time and the oil pump would circulate enough oil thru the motor when it idled but when you went driving their would not be enough oil circulating. its b etter to check everything and rebuild 1nce then just rebuild it n blow it up again.

do you have any plans for the engine performance wise(oversized piston etc)or is it stock?

I would definately pull it out and split the cases. I wouldn't spend a dime on new parts to put in it if thats what came out of my oil..that looks horrible....worst I've ever seen. How in the world was it still running??

it still ran just didnt have the power it would usally have(usally happens when i get alot of mud and water in carb and trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro) so i did what i would do if i got water in, went to change oil, then that stuff came out!!! so now i pulled the motor out and i got the rocker cap off, thats all i no how to do i wil be getting a manual tomorrow or the next day. is it a pain in the ass to pull the cases apart? which side should i do first? right or left? and i got no idea y it still ran lol all i can thinik of is its a honda:) well if the bottom end is f***** up i will probly get an xr200 bottom end. but i really cant do anything till i get the head off. i dont no what to do next...got rocker cap off now i can see the cam, a cain(timming cahin mabye) and the springs, no more bolts so i got to wait for my manual to get the rest off. wish me luck.... i hope i dont have to sell and get a golf cart:( o well we will wait and see.

Man if that happened to me id either buy another motor or get another bike and use the 200X as a parts bike. But good luck on fixing it and keep us posted.

Looks like thrust washers. This isn't good at all. If it is the rod will need replaced. I might be able to get a better idea if I have the full size picture. Email it to me and I will upload it to one of my storage accounts and post the full size picture. ;)

Ok, I have recieved the pictures and have looked at them. The pictures is better evidence of my worse thoughts. That ring is your thrust washer. I am 95% sure of it.

Where to start? The only way to 100% confirm my fear is to remove the top end ( head and cylinder ). Then look for washers on the crank on each side of the rod. I am willing to bet your missing one or both.
To fix the motor you must split the cases. This means both side covers, and part must be removed before the cases can be split. This isn't too hard.
Splitting the motor isn't that hard, how ever being able to put everything back together is. There are a lot of little parts that must be put back as they are removed. If you are going to do the work a good manual is a requirement.

I was able to cut only the needed stuff from the pictures so they could be posted. Those pictures are below.

It was siezed when i got it with metal in the oil, broke it loose, changed oil, ran it for about 2min and the oil was full of metal again so i changed it again and ran it for about 4hours then it siezed again, got it broke loose but i dont think im gonna ride it til i tear it apart and see was hapining.

howdy is what you are talking about number 6 on parts fish under crankshaft piston(under 85 200x)???????

That is the part.
FYI, The crank / rod assembly is pressed together. If it's repaired it will need to be done by a place that can do it without damaging the crank.

Yes, If you buy the $1200+ jig also. Why? The crank must be pressed back together very carefully. Honda spec's on it is only about .001 -.003 of a inch. There is No room for error. It's much cheaper to have a Dealer do the work. The dealer I use only charges $45 - $60 to do the work ( I supply the parts ).

damn thats alot lol, do you think that is all that is messed up? cuz if thats the case i can get an xr200 bottom end off ebay for like 60 bucks(will all the xr200 bottom ends work? and will the xr200r bottom ends work?)

I had the exact same problem with my 250sx, which resulted in getting a new bottom end instead of replacing the crank bearings.

I would go with getting the bottom end off ebay if I was you!!

Good Luck!!

I doubt your gonna find a good xr bottom end for $60. The one that you posted the link to will probably go for at least $150.00.

Muddy200x
08-03-2004, 06:46 AM
Yea, that would work. I havent started wrenching on my motor yet. I think I finaly got everything I need to convert to foward kick though. It's gonna be a slow prosses but I will get it done sooner or later. With he price for powroll parts it probably gonna be later.

ya im just going to get an xr200 bottom end and a xr200 cam, and i will probly port and polish it and go with the xr200 carb.

no matter how "easy" people might say it is, or the "it's not that hard". u have no idea how difficult splitting the cases for the first time is, i split mine on my 200x because the sprocket shaft was stripped, and there was no way in hell i was going to try and put it back together, i'm having enough of a time putting it back together with a different bottom end! 200x bottom ends dont go for much on ebay. the amount of money spent beefing up the motor i would buy an already fully built motor on ebay. i saw a new 12:1 high comp motor go on ebay for $300, not a bad deal if u calculate the price of the piston, machining, gaskets, and everything else u break in the process. that's what i would do if i did it over. but that's just my $.02 it IS a great learning experience :)

08-19-2004, 09:31 PM
ok well i got the top end off(got my manual) and took off the piston and it was the washers that go besides the crank. they are broken on one side and missing on the other. i think im going to go with a diff 200x bottom end if this is a really hard process.
