you cant do it with a quad but you can with a trike

you would need turn signals, DOT approved tires, a tailight that came on when you hit the brakes, a horn, a speedometer, etc

I am not sure if it matters 3 wheels or 4 but, it cannot have a straight axle. Whatever you attempt to make street legal will have to have a differential, among the more obvious things .

This has been brought up a million times, but guys, MOTOR VEHICLE LAWS ARE WRITTEN BY THE STATE. This means that what the law says in Ohio, Alabama or Florida means absolutely nothing in California, Alaska or Maryland. You need to check the laws for YOUR state.

Yup...Tim hit the nail on the head. These discussions come up ALL the time...but it all comes down to the state's laws. Some states allow 4-wheelers to be legalized while most require the "3 wheels or less" rule. In my state, it needs to have 3wheels or less....but getting it registered/titled would be the difficult part probably.
