This guy has built a business around it. This is about 10 miles from me. I assume they are installing a rear end with a differential.

very interesting indeed, does it build them from the ground up and then sell them or does he just put a differential(sp)and rear end on them?are they expensive?

Those kind are very expensive. There was a used Honda Goldwing (old 1500cc one) going for $25,000 at a local bike show.

Those things are all over oz. They are always advertised for sale in the local papers and bike magazines, although the majority are them big harleys and not liek them sport road bikes.....

i see those all the time. one of those new 1800cc six cylender Goldwings and that conversion would make the ultimate touring bike.

Being in Wisconsin I see at least several converted Harley Davidsons every day. I've often wondered how they can make a 3 wheeler street legal but can't even dream of one for the dirt.

Actually....you dont want one of those trikes. A friend of the family's got tendonitis (sp) in the shoulders from riding her's. They are a real B**** to turn.

Here is something that would be better though....a street legal ATC 250R :Bounce

Hey Tim, getting back to your original post, were you suggesting that this guy start making off-road versions? I've never understood with how picky the DMV/DOT/Government is that they will allow street legal trikes but not off road. It just seems bass ackward.

I wasnt suggesting anything, just thought others might find it of interest. I think it would be a really bad idea to build an off road version from a business standpoint. These are expensive cruisers, and these conversions cant be cheap either. I dont think off roaders would fork out the kind of money that goes into these.

Ohio has had street legal trikes for as long as I can remember. Most were an air cooled small car engine, (VW was common in the 70's), and a car rear end, with small custom body and then a motorcycle front end. Ohio still has a "trike" endorsement for your drivers license in addition to the motorcycle endorsement. ATVs are not included, and handle very poorly on the street because of the solid rear axle, and are not "legal" as a street machine. Ohio law does permit the operation of ATVs on secondary roads, with insurance and registration.

Try these. I've seen one trike and one bike on the road before.

The law in many states is that it must have a differential rear end in order to be street legal. Honda offers a kit for the Goldwings that you can order from the factory. They are expensive and I'm pretty sure they use the stock frame.

There was a tri-z with a road legal kit, and rear differential on eBay over here in the UK, not so long ago. The bloke selling it built the diff himself, but said it was rubbish for off road and swapped the regular and the road axles over in about 20 minutes! Don't have the item number still but some of you may have seen it? Was very tidy.

Didn't one of the Kawasaki's have a rear diferential, maybe the 200 or something?
