I have had this problem a few diffrent times, it first started when I rebuilt the engine. After ripping the engine out five times (seriously), and trying diffrent things, I finally noticed that my cam bering was shot, it had grooves in it, looked burnt, it was bad. After replacing the cam bering and the whole cam itself, I finally thought I had the problem figured out, and then it happened again today.
The top end of the motor seems to get real hot real fast, you ride it for less than 10 minutes, and the thing is like fiery hot, if you touched it, it would be like touching a very hot frying pan. I thought somthing might be up with my piston and cylinder, so I tried 3 diffrent cylinders, and pistons, and this time I put in a big bore kit, because I thought it would just work this time after fixing that cam problem. Every time the same thing happened, but when I ripped it apart, there was no damage to the piston or cylinder at all. I thought it might be my valves, so I adjusted the rocker arms to 8mm (spec settings) and no, that didnt do it. It seems like when you start off, with the motor cool, it runs pretty decent, but as soon as it starts to get hot, you hear this really bad noise, like a rattling almost. This happened even before I had adjusted my rocker arms. The engine dosent smoke. I even tried 2 stroke oil in the gas, and no go. There are two dowel oil pins on the bottom and two on the top of the cylinder head where the oil is pumped to the head, correct? It looked like that was right, because the other two holes on the top and bottom dont have grooves for the dowel to sit on, and they look smaller. The 85' 200x also got a valve job during the rebuild, so Im pretty sure they must be working properly.
My carb was at the same settings as it was when it was running before I tore it apart the second time it locked up, then I messed with that little screw near the bottom, which is the air/fuel mixture, and now I dont know what stock setting is..
If anyone knows of what could cause the problem, I would greatly appreciate some help. Any good idea will be accepted, and I will try it. Sorry for such a long thread, you must be tired of reading all that.
