So I threaded a front axle bolt in the magneto to pop it off....worked great. however i see that the crank has a slot with a little key way thing in it. now when i pulled the magneto off, the keyway was sitting flush inside the groove on the end of the axle, and actually looked very worn down. is that supposed to sit flush or is it supposed to stick out alot and actually also fit into the groove in the magneto??
P.S. i dropped my engine and broke the oil pump :Evil anyone have one to sell?

i believe its supposed to fit in the slot to keep the mag from spinning freely on the crank

Get a new woodruff key. They are about $2 at your Honda dealer. If it didnt keep the flywheel from spining on the shaft, it woudlnt have much of a purpose. When they do spin on the shaft, it will cause missing, backfiring, and constantly changing ignition timing.

I think the key is built onto the fltwheel.

i dont think it's built into the flywheel, i popped it right out of the axle.
thanks tim!
and i have the side covers off so it fell right onto the oil pump
