i am getting ready to put my 81 185s back together and i can't seem to find the cover for the pick-up coil that goes on the end of the camshaft. i took the cover off because the sensor wasn't on there. i don't remember what i did with the cover although i know i had it.
anyway, i was wondering if you need that to run it, or does the pick-up sensor fit into the cap. it's been awhile since i've seen one, but i thought it mounted inside the space around the camshaft but i'm not sure about this one. i hope to get my parts tommorow, but as of right now i don't have them so i have no way of knowing if i can get it to run without it. i won't ride without the cover but i hope to get it running. (i have no chain for it, and the front sprocket is total crap anyway)
