I used about 60 pieces of PEE gravel. and put them in the tank with some degreaser and shook the tank for about 15 min that took care of most of the rust. then i rinsed the tank with water. I had alot of rust in my tank. But make sure you get all the PEE gravel pieces out of your tank.

i have always used por15 gas tank liner. it comes in a kit that will have chemicals to remove the rust, prime it then the por15 coat which will last forever.

I've used small chain also. Works great. I'm talking chain like the stuff you use to pull something, not drive chain. Pee gravel is like little round pebbles. Regular driveway Gravel works good, since the sharp edges get off the rust. Just make sure to clean the gravel good. (get the dirt off it!)

I used muratic acid. Poured it in...shook it around...let it sit for about 30 minutes, then tilted the tank on its side, then the other side etc, then rinsed it and sprayed a little WD-40 in there and looks like new inside!
jsut be careful not to breathe that stuff in. Oh and for 2 gallons its only like $8 at home depot. Also, take the petcok off and tape up the hole with ductape.

Good luck!
