I went to service honda and got prices on all new plastic for my 85 R. Including rear fender, front fender, gas tank, right shroud, left shroud, and headlight garnish. The total is 663.95. My bike is stock right now and I have it torn down doing the 89 clutch update but my parts didn't come last week and guess what, the honda shop here is closed all this week for the 4th. This winter I am putting in new crank bearings, along with a rebuilt crank and a left case halve. I am sending my jug off for an L.A. sleeve and port work, getting some ESR reeds, head, and ATC5 pipe and silencer. I am putting an 36mm A/S carb on also. I already have the carb, reeds and head but am waiting to get it all before I put it on. I am going to have the frame powder coated honda red and was just wondering if you guys think it would be better to have the honda plastic or if I should just go with maier or some other aftermarket supplier. Also, do you think I should keep the gold rims or go with some new douglas wheels? Thanks in advance. :Bounce

if you were going to restore it to oem specks yah its worth it but with the mods you have sound like you are going to ride it ! so i say look for some good used oem buy maier or something i think i would cry if it spent that much on plastic and then broke it !

The plastic I have on it is in very good shape but I just wanna cry evertime I see new OEM plastic because it is so beautiful to me. I go to the dunes twice a year and it is 1800 mile round-trip for me so i like to have somthing nice when i go. I may just buy the plastic and swap it out for the dunes and store it the rest of the time. The sand seems to be fairly easy on plastic.

On the ATC5 pipe, it is sold be ESR. www.esr250r.com

I think the 85 rear plsatic is discontinued now so you have to get the 86 plastic....whats the difference...I dont know..........peace

Where do you guys find parts for the 85/86 atc's?

When I go to servicehonda all I see are parts for the Fourtrax 250R, do I have to register with them or something to find that stuff?

I disagree. I have a whole new set of 350x plastics that I'm putting on my "new" 350x. I plan to ride it regularly. I also have an 85 R that I'm slowly going to buy new OEM plastics for (by the way, the tank is discontinued). Here is the trick....know your limits....and don't wreck! You can't beat the look of new platics....and pretty soon there will be no more available...why not get 'em while you can...

What is the 89 clutch conversion that you spoke about??? My clutch is shot -- basket is grooved. I'm assuming it is a way to convert to a new clutch with more plates?!?!?!? Help.

Yes, I think so if you can get them. I got one of the last set of OEM 350X rear fenders, and wouldn't have it any other way. They look and fit 200% better than the Maier ones.. However, I run a spare set whenever I go riding in mud or the woods.
