bigger carb for 250R??

can i put a bigger carb on my 82 250R? if so what size and brand? also what reeds work best on this model? need help finding anything i can for this bike.

I have an '82 250r and I run a 34mm mikuni carb with boysen power reeds an uni 2 stage filter with no air box and a DG silencer and it runs great!

the airfooler R carb boots are alot smaller then the liquid cooled R boots, i very much doubt you could get a 500 carb in there,, on my 84 R awhile back i had trouble getting the 36mm in that small boot. (heat gun, grease, nicotine, and lots of pushing and frustation is what it takes)

i also should add this, after i ran that 36 for awhile i wanted bigger,,so i picked up a 40mm, there was no way in hell it was going in that boot,, so what i did was get a liquid cooled R boot and put it on the 84 (bolts right on) since this boot is bigger it gives you more options for larger carbs, but it is shaped a little differently, so i dont know if the stock airbox would work, i never even tried so i couldnt tell you, i just ran a off the carb k&n on the 40mm



to answer your other questions, boyesen reeds are your best bet if you are just gonna get aftermarket reeds instead of a whole cage setup, but be aware that all the reedcages offered for the trx250r's and liquid cooled atc R's will bolt right into your R, and also, a plus side to that is, if you get the boyesen rad valve you can run a bigger carb with no problems with the boot, and the rad valve makes one hell of a difference on the air R's

and while your doing intake mods, get yourself a reed spacer, it really helps the air cooled motor.

also i dont have the airbox anyways i was just planning on running a filter straight of the carb or off a boot off of the carb.

yes,, you can run any 34mm carb, i always ran kehiens, i prefer them over mikunis because they always seem to be easier to tune.

Well I know I have an 84 but the engines are pretty much the same. I am currently running an 85 250R carb on mine and it runs great and super strong. I do have a DG full pipe and silencer and K&N filer. The only thing I have noticed about this carb is when you choke it. You can only choke it for a min or so at the most or it will foul the plug.........peace

You should be able to find an 85 carb on ebay cheap. They are a dime a dozen. Mostly cuz they are upgrading to bigger ones too. My choice would be for an 85 carb that is super clean. Keep a look out on them...........peace
