Hi,

I found this ad in the paper around here "1985 kawi 250 tecate 3wheeler needs timing adjusted, bearclaws, good plastic, very fast, extra pieces $500 firm or trade for snowmobile in comparable shape"

.......and that's 500 CDN

My question is, what's involved with timing a 2 stroke? I can do it to a 4 stroke are they that different?

Sounds like a good deal eh?

timing is easy to adjust on the tecates, all you do is adjust the position of the stator (fairly easy) when your taking the flywheel off dont hit it with anything....the magnets come off enough without hitting involved

i bet the stator is already bad, that is why the timing needs "adjusted"

I would agree. The timing isnt even adjustable on about half the 2 strokes out there. On the ones where it is, you rotate the stator plate within slotted mounting holes. On the Tri-Z, the amount of adjustable play is about 1/2", and you can move it from one extreme to the other without any detectable difference in the way it runs.

Beware buying anything where they say "all it needs is a ..." If it were that simple, common sense would dictate that they would adjust the "......." so that they could sell it as being in good running order. Usually 9 out of 10 non running bikes, they say the carb needs adjusted, so at least timing is a new one!

okay, so if the stator is bad, how much to fix that? Could still be worth the money.

As for all kinds of bikes in America, here in Nova Scotia Canada there isn't much at all for 2 strokes, tons of 250ES's but very hard to find a 250r or even harder to find a tri-z or a tecate that's why this caught my eye at such a good price.

hey man
i was borne in nova scotia n moved to prince edward island when i was 12. You do see tons of honda utlity trikes but never any 2 strokes. Around here clammers n fishermen use 3 wheelers for hauling equiprment.
