I'm wondering this and hope it answers other peoples questions as well.

I think the 84 T3 axle uses different hubs/splines on its axle so is the 84 and 85 axle different?

Is there any difference between the 85 and 86/87 T3 axle/carrier? Is the 86 axle wider than the 85?

Will the 86-87 axle fit in the 85 carrier?

Would all the components from the 85 swinger just bolt onto the 86-87 swinger?

Who makes aftermarket axles for the 85 Tecate 3?

Ok the 84-85 hubs are interchangable and the 84/85 and 86/87 are not compatable with each other. So how about sliding a complete 86 axle into an 85 carrier? Any difference in the width?

84/85 KXTs use a different rear bearing than 86/87. I'm pretty sure that the 86 axle is too big to slip into the 84/85 bearings.

You could probably use an 86 axle. but you need the 86 carrier. 87 Carrier was a little different in caliper mounting because of the parking brake. I never tried back when I had both an A & B Tecate, but I've heard the carriers will bolt up.

I don't know if you gain anything. The 86 KXT axle is not what I would call wide. It's probably not any wider than the stock 84/85.

As far as I know, no one makes wider axles anymore.
