Guys...

My tri z needs a new fuel pump...what do I do? Get a new one, an ebay one, or repair it?

Tell me how....to fix it. Thanks,

Darius

Is it the baffle that has a hole in it or what? If thats all it is, take it out and go to the local glass shop and see if they can cut you a peice of thin flexible lexan. Someone on here said they cut out the shape from a goggle tear off and it worked great. Worth a shot.

If you want to get a kit though, I think Marco (Greenboy) showed a link to a Mikuni fuel pump rebuild kit on http://www.carbparts.com I think it was.

What is wrong with it? Have you taken it apart yet? What you find will determine the best thing to do about it. They rarely fail, and failure may be nothing more than a pice of foreign debris stuck in a one way flapper valve.

I have cleaned the thing out and checked all the hoses.

It must be a failure because it always takes forever to start unless I drop some gas in the carb line or in the spark plug hole. Once its running the trike will start up fine....but if I hold it wide open for too long it will stall out like its running out of gas.

Also I can kick it over with the fuel line disconnected from the carb and nothing comes out....its working but not too well.

Almost sounds like carb issues to me. Choke operating properly?

I don't believe the fuel line should have anything coming out of it until the engine is running. I doubt the engine makes enough vacuum while kicking it to operate the pump.

You also say that once the trike is running, it will start up fine. So, when it's warmed up, it will fire right up, is that correct? I would think that if the pump was not operating properly it would be consistant.

Is your bowl perhaps leaking your fuel out while it sits and is dry when you try to start it up after sitting? Are your floats too low?

If it were me, I'd check that stuff first, as easy as it is.

Just my opinion.

If no gas gets to the carb when trying to start it then how does it start up?

I am perplexed...

It should spit out a little gas each time you kick it, but if there is a bad component in teh pump, you should be able to identify it visually. If its clean, and nothing is cracked, I highly doubt there is anything wrong with it. Id replace the vacuum hose, and make sure the hose fitting in the jug is clear by shoving a wire all the way through it. Also make sure your base gasket is not leaking.
