81 250r What's it worth?

G'day,

I am looking at purchasing an 81 250r and I was wondering what you guys thought a good price to paid would be. Everything one the trike is almost like new, it was in storage for many years, the motor has been complete rebuilt and everything was professional done. The only thing that it could use is the front brakes need a little work, they do not work right now, This trike is insane to ride, and very fast, the back tires a brand new the front is orignal with about 95% tread. He is asking $1500 Canadian.

That seems to be a pretty decent price if it is in as nice a shape as it sounds. That would easily fetch $1500 - 1800 american around here so I think thats a pretty good deal.

An 81 would fetch $15-$18 U.S.? Oh wow. I guess not having the market for them up here in Nothern Ontario, kinda brings their value down to whatever you're willing to pay. Personally I wouldn't pay over $1000. But then again that could just be why I'm rollin the 84 Yamahauler which was $600 Canadian dollars, and it's mint.

700 to 1100 US and not a penny more. Unless you are really into the first generation air cooled...there are better deals to be had.

I live in NB, and R's are hard to come by, be it air cooled, or liquid. Sure, they're not as fast as a liquid or even an 83-84, and parts are probably hard to come by, but for the condition it's in, and the condition it will be in for quite a while, if taken care of, I would say it's worth 1500. You should try to talk him down a bit, but if he won't it sounds pretty good to me. Motor work is pretty expensive, as are tires, to get one in reasonable shape, and do that work to it, it would probably run you way over 1500. All the yankee bastards on here all say how much a liquid is better, etc etc, but they don't know what it's like in canada, let alone New Brunswick. There's nothing around here, except utility trikes, the once upon a blue moon racers that you come by, are either driven to crap, and everything jimmy rigged on it, and yet still expensive, or nice at a little high price, or mint at a ridiculous price. I know of a $3600 86r, I think that's a little high. That's all only my opinion though

Sounds like a not too bad of a deal, but of course try to talk the guy down a bit. Here in B.C., we don't see many 2 stroke trikes anymore, let alone 1st gen.. The ones that do appear tend to be too pricey. I piced up a really nice original 82 a few years back and allowed $1k for it in trade, so yours may well be worth it.

I live in Prince Edward Island...its an island off teh coast of New Brunswick n Nova Scotia and the only trikes u ever see around here are the odd yamaha 200 and big reds. I saw a 350X once. Come to think of it untill i found this site i never knew 2 stroke racing 3 wheelers even existed..thats how few their are in Atlantic Canada .

well i can get a nice 85 86 250r for 1400 to 1800 around here so id say thats worth about 800 to 1100

But, threewheelin-feelin, you do realize this topic is in Canadian dollars, and the supply is 1/10 of what there is in the states. The rules of supply and demand are in full play here.

Here in northern Ny you would be lucky if you could sell a trike for $500.00
